I wouldn't say "should" because that takes us down a very difficult road. I would say that it is appropriate, it is a common practice, and that it is good to remember others with acts of kindness no matter how small.

Generally, we leave a gift in the mailbox for the postperson a week or so before Christmas. If you give it too close to Christmas, they may get loaded down with gifts all one day as the practice is so common. (Occasionally a substitute will get it, but that's cool, too.) We live in a close community and a nice neighborhood so we tend to know the people in the post office, police dept., city counselors, etc.

I've never considered giving a postperson a monetary tip like I would a foodserver. Postpeople generally make a decent salary and could be offended by a monetary gift or 'tip.'

Giving people a valuable, useful, or sentimental gift from time to time is a good thing regardless of their occupation.

Why July, I always give my postman a tip for the holidays in December. If I see him in the heart of Summer I offer him a soda, or Lemonade.

I don't know. It would be nice but I don't think they are allowed to accept money because it might constitute a bribe (the same reason Police, Firefighters, Military Personnel, and other Civil Servants are not allowed to accept money).

For my Postman, I just give him a card and cookies at holiday time, but I have to do it in person or he cannot take it since (according to him) just like everyone else, he cannot tamper with the mail and take a letter out.

I would call the Post Office to find out for sure though.

I used to be simply considering this truthfully~ But extra in phrases of instructing my daughter approximately the roles individuals do and the way it's satisfactory to exhibit individuals you recognize the activity they do. And how those jobs are handy for society. See~ my daughter requested me if ladies are allowed to paintings.. (She's four.. so she frequently does not particularly get that the cashier who's a woman is *operating* lol).. I bet that is what occurs while mother makes a decision to stick residence for a couple of years with the kiddos.. So~ In my thought crunching the final two days.. I made up our minds we're going to bake a few cookies and feature sizzling chocolate in a position subsequent time our trash individuals come.. it is iciness and freezing.. so it should be a depressing activity! One man drives even as the opposite hangs directly to the again of the truck after which jumps off and grabs the cans.. yeah.. depressing.. So I idea that could be a well means to give an explanation for to my daughter what they're doing and the way satisfactory it's to have them.. and further bonus thank them for his or her activity~ As for the mailman.. I used to continuously be long gone while the mail got here. But I am now not babysitting so I used to be considering incorporating him into the combination too. We shouldn't have the paper introduced.. however we do get this unfastened factor from our newspaper.. and particularly frankly.. they supply it to any one with no subscription (we do not even desire it..) and might be in the event that they placed it in our newspaper holder (proper subsequent to the mailbox) instead than below the timber to be hidden by way of snow till spring.. might be then I could do not forget it.. as of now.. it is extra an annoyance than whatever to recognize.. (that can sound ungrateful.. however the timber wherein we uncover papers within the spring are proper there at my mailbox.. instead than the bottom simply transfer your arm three toes bigger..) UPS~ we rarely get whatever.. and once we do they simply go away it at the step.. BUT while I labored at a leather-based keep while I used to be a child the equal UPS man got here daily and each as soon as in a even as we gave him meals from the diner around the avenue or a drink or a few variant of the variety.. Honestly~ I could feel giving appreciation pointers like a present card or whatever baked must quilt it. Working for the postal provider round here's obviously a prime paying activity with nice advantages.. UPS as good. The rubbish guy.. good.. that is a crappy activity it doesn't matter what you receives a commission. The paper provider.. yeah.. more often than not i could say sure.. however there's no means I am tipping those individuals who're littering in my backyard (and their paper isn't whatever I can un-sign up for). I feel tipping those individuals is extra approximately appreciation~ whatever individuals do not exhibit anymore for whatever. And the newspaper.. is often children or unmarried mothers and fathers with a automobile filled with children~ you understand they want the coins if they're dragging infants out while it is nonetheless darkish. So that's like just a little greater than appreciation. I could supply possibly $10 per week (that's greater than it expenditures to subscribe 7 days per week).. *if* we subscribed.
