my grandmother has this. in her its caused by demilenation of the nerve shaft sheathing.
her situation is unique form of old age blood disorder. other people may have the same symptoms for different causes but I assume the one thing they all have in common has to do with the sciatic nerve or its lessers.
the symptoms may include but are not limited to extreme muscle cramps, shaking, loss of lower body coordination and constant pain from massive lactic acid build up (or whatever excrement that is coming out of your muscle cells from burned energy).

Restless Leg Syndrome has many causes, people with certain types of arthritis, heart disease and diabetes are hit the hardest with this usually harmless but extremely annoying medical condition. Stress, too much walking or standing and exhaustion can also bring on sudden "attacks". What it does is cause the muscles in the legs to jerk involuntarily, almost always when the rest of the body is trying to sleep. Certain medications, (muscle relaxers) can help some, but few who suffer from Restless Leg Syndrome. There is no real treatment for it aside from hot baths and massages to try and relax the muscles before going to bed. This syndrome runs in mine and my husband's family, in fact my husband has it, so we know a bit about it. Hope this was helpful.

if you are stressed out or overly tired you will get R.L.S. I read in a magazine that you should stretch your legs and curl your toes for 1 min , it helps the circulation, beleive me it works, i get R.L.S all the time but don't suffer any more with this technque.
