The term Pope is from the Greek "pappas" and the Latin "papa." Both of these mean "father."
That these terms even came into use by the church (mostly among the Roman, Anglican, Orthodox, Coptic, and Assyrian churches) is a direct violation of Jesus' teachings.
As it is written: "And don't call anyone on earth 'Father,' for you have only one Father, the one in heaven." (Matthew 23:9)

Papa and father are misused by the Church for Pope, whether it applies to the Catholics or others among the Christians. It has nothing to do with faith which is purely a personal matter in relation to God, but these terms are used historically to institutionalise the human faith as organised religion which is the evil of all human sufferings whole over the world, at least for last 1700 years.

The Pope is a spiritual father to the world wide Church in much the same fashion as Abraham was the patriarchal "father" to the Jews and the Arabs.
In much the same manner, parish priests, the "fathers" who minister to the needs of the Catholic faith community act in the same role, but simply in a more geographically limited fashion.
Protestants inherited deep seated animosity towards the Pope and towards priests, from their early "fathers" Luther, Calvin, Zwingli, and others.
That's why they misinterpret scripture and see only prohibitions, when "father" is quite properly applied to many different biblical figures, in many (around 200) positive ways.
The biggest reason Protestants don't accept the office of Pope, or priests for that matter, is because they won't accept the clear and sweeping authority which God gave to his Catholic church alone.
If they did that, than they would have no choice but to be Catholic.

The word Pope means Papa or Father but is actually a misunderstanding. Catholics believe Peter was the first Pope based on a conversation between Jesus and Peter. In it Jesus referred to Peter as the petros meaning little stone and himself as Petra meaning the Rock. They believe that Jesus was in this conversation appointing Peter to be the head of the church when he physically left the earth. Anyone who understands bible language would see the term Rock was applied to himself. as he is referred to as the rock of salvation, and the chief cornerstone. No where in scripture do you find the other disciples referring to Peter as Pope or suggesting he was the head of the church. This title was clearly reserved for Jesus. Ironically in another passage Jesus suggested that we call no man father, I believe in a spiritual sense as there is only one Father in heaven. Those who don't agree with the Popes authority base their beliefs on the scripture and adhere to the warning of Jesus not make the word of God void by accepting the traditons of men. I hav nothing against Catholics as I used to be one. Think about it if we were in does God want our allegiance to him or to a man? This doesn't mean we disrespect men but Jesus never meant to substitute his himself as the head of the church with a man. In scripture we find Paul correcting Peter when he was being wishy washy about trying to get the non jews to be circumscised. In one scriptureI find a curious statement by Paul 1 Corinthians 9:5 Do we not have a right to take along a wife even as the rest of the apostles and brothers in the Lord and Cephas? This passage seems to infer that Peter could have had a wife or was allowed to if he had so chosen. So where did the celibacy tradition originate? I know I have said alot more than the question but is interesting none the less. Most importantly Jesus died to save us from our sins not having faith in the Pope or any church. Jesus never taught belonging to any organization would save us from our sins.
