His name is Matthew and lives with his mother 400 miles away. The last time I saw him was last Christmas for a couple days.

money or gift cards are good. teens tend to like to buy their own things. if you know his favorite store a gift card there would be good.

I think you should plan a nice party for his birthday. You only turn 18 once and he is at the age where he will be leaving behind alot of his friends as he moves on in life and it is a good time to show them how much you appreciate them on there birthday before they get old enough to leave the nest.

a new cell phone
a new laptop
cufflinks
a planned trip somewhere nice
a suit
a nicer bracelet
a ipod
a nice fountain pen
if he has a specific interest (golf clubs, snowboard...)
a digital camera
a digital picture frame (philips)

Depends on your budget. A laptop or cell phone if going to college. If he has a decent job already, a security deposit on an apartment if he is looking to get out on his own.

I recently turned 18 and my parents took to the the tattoo shop and let me get what ever I wanted!!!! It was kinda fun knowing I didnt have to get one behind there backs......
