Why ban gay marriage? Would you be happier if they called it an affermation of love and gave them the same rights as married couples? Please do not talk about the procreation because there are enough children in foster homes who need the love that they do not need to procreate.

So Regina P are you saying that you would not want a gay couple who are raising children together to be able to support them together. For example a woman and her female partner are raising the womans kids and the woman could not work or get medical help for her and her children but nither can the partner because she is not her spouse so you would rather see this family suffer than to see this family medically healthy?

Regina do you have kids? Are you considered financially stable? have you ever been injured to the point where you can not work? do you know how much money the state gives women with children? Do you know that the government does not give men assistance? People do not just give up their kids not real people anyway. most states only give 200 to 600 dollars depending on how many kids you have and poor a.... medical benifits for the family I know because I was on assistance at one point. that is not enought to take care of all the expenses. Also there are plenty of children who were brought up in a homosexual house hold who are doing much better than the kids that were not and they are not gay. Get you facts straight before you talk about things. There is no difference in the kids being judgemental of others is also a sin in your GODs eyes remember that.

I think the religious or private person's impulse to ban gay marriage comes out of fear - fear that the children of the faithful will go down the wrong path if this kind of "ungodly" behavior is sanctioned and accepted.

I think more practically, though, the reason to ban them is because insurance companies currently don't have to pay spousal benefits on gay couples and they like that. There can be a lot of money involved in health insurance, life insurance, pensions, social security, etc. that all would go automatically to a wife, but if gay's can't legally have a spouse it stays with the company or the government, in the case of Social Security.

Peace!

PS - to the answerer directly above me regina_p: there are a lot of things in the world that impressionable kids don't need to understand and most of them are rampant in today's society. Gay couples very often keep to themselves and are not trying to share their life or lifestyle with impressionable children. I am sorry of you think that Gay marriage is too much to deal with for your kids, but how about war, genocide, prostetution, pornography, or the epidemic of autism in our society. Of all these things, the only one that your child will actually be exposed to at an impressionable age is the autism epidemic. Do you feel more comfortable explaining to your child that the FDA is allowing poisons into food and vaccination that many children are being subjected to rather than explaining to your child that that is a different kind of family or relationship that people of your faith do not participate in?

Honestly - protecting your child from the evils of gay marriage is the least of your worries I would think? How about guns at school, under age drinking, drugs, cigarettes, sex? All of these things are a LOT more dangerous to your children than what grown consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home and lives.

The primary stance people take centers around it being against their religion's precepts. The problem with that argument comes from the fact that marriage is not the sole provence of their religion. It's a civil issue, a contract that people can enter into regardless of their religious choice. Since we do not have a requirement to be a member of a specific religion in order to get married, it makes little sense to place a specific religion's restrictions upon marraige.

Trying to center marriage on kids is redirecting the issue. We make no attempt to prevent people who cannot or do not wish to have kids from getting married. Nor do we prevent divorce for couples with kids.

The fact that so many people oppose a simple civil union for legal/financial reasons also undercuts the arguments against gay marriage - people aren't protecting the "sanctity of marriage" by fighting a legal contract, they're clinging to an exclusivist mindset because they feel threatened. Marriage, as an institution, is in many ways worse off than it was in the past, and gay marriage, while not a true threat, is a visible target for people to rail against.

So many people just don't get the fact that banning gay marriage doesn't ban the relationship. So,they think homosexuality is wrong, but it's still there, just as much as if they were married.Probably more because marriage does have a way of taking the bloom off the rose,so to speak.I think gay marriage should be allowed. It doesn't affect me,so why should it bother me?

I think the gay society wants to be able to marry for a few reasons. Many say to validate them as a couple legally , some to get the financial benefits of the medical pensions etc. Some just feel their lifestyle will be more accepted as heterosexual couples which has more to do with their view of themselves than any-ones Else's.
If i don't accept the gay lifestyle and they get married, i still wouldn't accept the lifestyle and by accepting them as having the right to marry then i am condoning their beliefs and lifestyle. Just seems odd that a group that has the very "WE'RE NOT LIKE YOU" parades that even embarrass some gays want to be like male/female couples.

Other than misinterpretations of a couple of bible verses. I would have to say Let them marry.with the same rights .
Also those that chose not to marry but live as a couple (male&female) without marriage.
And you are right there is to many children in need of fostering. bought on by the do gooders that don't allow room for honest mistakes and accidents and take children away from their familes for the smallest infraction in their eyes.

It is a two sided story.Look at it this way.The gays have made a lifestyle that is very hard to get out of,and in their minds there's nothing wrong with it. On the other hand, some reilgous people might look at it as a sin,and they automatically acuse them for being sinners,in there eyes there going to hell.
I have met some Gays there some of my closest friends.

The burden is not upon society to answer why it should be banned, because marriage has been between a man and a woman for thousands of years. Therefore, the traditional people are not the ones proposing the radical change.

More appropriately, the burden is upon the extremists who want the transformation (why it should be accepted), and there has been no valid reason that has held water. 14 out of the last 15 states have courageously JUST SAID NO in recent elections.

1 Man + 1 Woman = Marriage

There are so many couples who don't live the way the Christian Right wants them to, and their marriages are legal. I don't see why I can't have mine.

Why would homosexuals want to use a Christian term like that? Civil unions maybe, but marriage already has its own meaning.

You should ask the Catholics. I am one of em haha but I really don't care. They should be able to get married. I just think religous causes too much problem in humans history.. don't you think? I believe in God don't get me wrong i just despise how the bible states it as a sin. What is the sin?
