It was not mentioned what your pet is, but it seems to be a little old that's why it may be finding itself hard to digest hard food. Try to see what kind of food triggers it to be ill. The water it drinks, is it contaminated/clean? I think that a two-day treatment is not enough, maybe it should be drinking amoxicillin for a week to ensure its effectiveness and if it does not work, a stronger antibiotic. There's nothing wrong if you take a second opinion from another vet. They know better.

I think that you have left out some information here. Has your dog had xrays and blood work done? Has she had a stool sample checked for both parasites and incorrect bacteria? If you answered no to either of these, you need to get them done. There can be several different reasons for your pet's diarrhea.

If you have had them done, and still are no closer to an answer, you may want to try some dietary modification. Discuss using easily digestible foods, such as Eukanuba Lo Residue, or Purina CNM DM.

In any case, you are going to need to do some testing, if you have not already done it, and you may need to do some things multiple times. There are also a number of medical therapies that your vet may suggest. I recommend making an appointment to discuss further testing and treatment, or asking for a referral to a specialist if your vet is unable to diagnose the problem.

Good luck!

If it's a dog or cat ,the amoxicillin could make the diarrhea worse,as it destroys beneficial bacteria.I would ask the vet to try Metronidazole. It is used for chronic diarrhea ,and is an anti-inflammatory as well.I would also put the animal on a diet of boiled skinless chicken breast and well-cooked rice,,and add some yogurt(Plain, unsweetened)to the diet. For a cat I would give up to 1/4 cup of yogurt daily;for a dog ,up to 1 cup depending on the size of the dog.A good vitamin and some digestive enzymes might help as well.Good luck.

If you really want to get this investigated there are a few things you can do. Ask your vet to do a faecal flotation on a sample of your dogs waste. This is a chance for your vet to look at the sample through a microscope and check for bacteria or parasites.
You could try a blood test known as a General Health Profile. This will look at how your dogs body is working in general and pick up and abnormalities in kidneys, liver etc.
You can put your dog on a diet known as I/D (intestinal diet made by hills) or Z/D (low allergen diet).
Try these first before keeping the dog on medication.

I would definitely get a second opinion from another vet. It could be a poisenous plant or worse... Also, more and more vets are doing Holistic animal care - like accupuncture and more. My cat had cancer and responded so much better than she did with traditional medicine. You don't say what kind of pet it is - but I would hate ANY animal to suffer!

A couple times a week I give our pug a half of a pepto bismol tablet. It the stools are still loose I give the other half. Usually in 30 minutes it is better. I have had to do this twice some days . Good luck to you and I hope puppy gets better soon.

If your pet has been having this problem for so long and your vet doesn't know whats wrong I would suggest going to another vet, but maybe you have seen more than one. I haven't heard of this problem before. Sorry I can't tell you what is wrong.

your pet is a dog??

amoxacillen will often give a dog loose poops but is to kill bacteria - your dog might have had coccidioses or some other bacterial infection.. make sure you finish all the medicine..
what food is the dog on?? that could be part of it? did you switch her food or treats recently?

if they vet is treating her for something they should know what it is.. and be able to tell you - or perhaps you need another vet...
