This coach MUST be reported to social services and the child's parents must be told. When he struck a child, no matter if the child is Hispanic or has Down syndrome, he voluntarily GAVE UP his right to a retirement, pension, reputation, etc. You need to defend this child who has more at stake than the monster who hit him. Please, I beg of you, do the right thing and report him and know that you are not getting him in trouble...he did that all by himself. If he chooses to behave this way, then he must face the consequences of his action. If you don't stand up for the child, who will??? Please please please call the police or social services.

As the mom to a young son with Down syndrome, I would hope that if one adult witnessed him being abused by another adult, that the person would do their utmost to help protect my child.

It doesnt matter if you witnessed it or not...you need to report what the girl told you to your boss and let them decide what action to take. You should not feel guilty about any consequences he may face..it is your responsibility to look out for the kids. As a parent I would feel so much better knowing you were looking after my kids.

Your job is considered a reporter. You work with those that cannot stand up for themselves and by law you have to call CPS CHild Protective Services and report it. If you don't and someone knows you saw it and did not say anything you are liable.

I don't care if he is facing all of those things. I GUARANTEE YOU that this isn't the only child that he has hit, and what is worse, it is a person that has absolutley no way to defend himself or herself. You must do the right thing and report him to the authorities. Don't let guilt kill you, let the guilty bear it.

It is your civic duty, not to mention your duty as a compassionate human being, to report this person to the police IMMEDIATELY. If this man loses everything he has, it's HIS fault. HE hit the child. HE made the choice to harm an innocent person. You shouldn't hesitate to report him because you think he might suffer because of being reported... that's HIS problem, not yours.

Report it. With his attitude I doubt if this child was the first nor will be the last.

That is so very sad! :-( I agree with everyone else, it is your legal and ethical responsibility to report it.

I can't imagine what that poor boy is feeling right now, with nobody around to stick up for him. :-( I'm almost in tears.

I believe that due to your job position, you are required by law to report to CPS if you SUSPECT child abuse. You can report anonymously. They are then supposed to investigate.

There is an old saying that reads as follows:

"To not allow and limit the ability of light to shine is to allow and expand the ability of darkness to spread."

Apply this to your situation and I think you can answer what it is you need to do.
