An atheist does not believe in a "higher power" so to speak. Yes, if you believe God is fake you are considered an atheist because God is a "higher power".

Believing that God is fake ... does that mean you believe there is no God, or that you believe the version of God that has been handed to you is fake? An atheist is someone who is convinced there is no god or God of any sort. (Although the Romans called Christians and Jews atheists because they didn't believe in the Roman pantheon of gods).
One can believe that God in the way he has been taught about God doesn't make sense.
Or one can be very angry at God, and afraid to express that to Him, so he'll attack Him to others.
For some reason, when I see the word FAKE in capitals like that, I sense a certain anger. I don't know if that anger is directed at those who have taught you about God or at God Himself. If it is the latter, the there is hope! You can freely express that anger to Him. You'll be surprised at the love with which He will respond. He certainly won't respond with some of the comments I've seen in this list :)

I'm going to ignore the first question and go straight to the second.
An atheist is a person who has rejected God. Does not believe in Him in any way. If that means they think God is a fake I guess that would be part of the picture, but I think many people who say they have rejected God don't really know or aren't sure.
The difference between atheism and agnosticism is that atheists are sure there is no God and agnostics aren't sure if there is or isn't one.
I'm a Christian, former agnostic.

No. Atheism is sort of impossible. How can you totally KNOW that there isn't a god out there ... maybe one who has decided that you aren't worth his effort and cleverly avoids you every time you look for him? To knowthat, you would - in all candor - have to be God. Some religions are fake, or have fake aspects to them. That doesn't make God fake. This world and this universe have a date certain where they will cease to exist. So what/who made it all happen? Who gave it beauty and design? That being, my beautiful woman, is God.

Atheist means that you don't believe in God. They can believe in any other supernatural thing and still be an atheist - most however, don't.
It comes in two basic colors.
The weak/soft/agnostic atheist says "I don't believe God exists"
The strong/hard atheist says, "I believe that God does not exist."
A slight difference, but important in my opinion. The former remembers that they could be wrong, even if there's no doubt in their mind that they are not. The latter makes an assertion, saying, "There is definitely no God" in so many words.
I am an agnostic atheist.

An Atheist who says he knows for certain that god does not exist is lying to himself as much as the Christian who says he knows God exists. An Agnostic is simply being honest. We don't know and neither do you.

You're an atheist only if you think ALL gods are fake. An atheist is someone who does not believe in deities.

Depends if you think God is fake, or all gods.
If you still have an open mind to gods other than the monotheistic death cult versions...then you aren't an atheist.
