I asked a previous question about my eligibility--now, what, as a female, should I expect in the physical test for acceptance into the police academy? (Can you tell I am nervous?) I am physically strong, do I need to actually train for it?

No need to train. I am taking my police physical test later this month in Maryland. Most counties in my state have similar tests. They usually include sit-ups, push-ups, 1.5 mile run, bench press, etc. I do not work out that often, maybe once a week if I am lucky, and I already meet thier expectations. Luckily for us, the physical standards for women are much less than for men. For example, I have to run 1.5 miles in 15 min, but the men have to do it in 13 min. What state are you in by the way? It's not so much the physical test you have to worry about, they just want to make sure you are not a couch potato. It is the academy that you really have to worry about - that is where you really get a workout!

It depends on what department and where you are testing. When I took it the one thing that most females had problems with was upper body strength. this is needed to hop a six foot wall. I watched how the men did it and just practiced. even if you are physically strong I thinks its still a good idea to practice as much as you are able, this will help with your nerves. good luck to you

I did. My test included a 150lb dummy drag over 100ft, which was very difficult for me and I don't consider myself unfit.

Not every test is the same, but expect it to be strenuous, as the test is desgined to see how you would hold up on the job. Crawling, pulling a dummy, running and jumping over barriers are likely key elements in the test, which is also likely timed.

Work on your cardio and build up your upper body strength. You'll be fine and good luck.
