I agree with Donna. Your friend needs professional help ASAP.

I suffer from major depression and a little over 2.5 years ago I tried to kill myself. I ended up in a regular hospital for about a week. Then, when I got out I went and self-admitted myself into a behavioral hospital, where I stayed for another week. Once I got out of there, I admitted myself into their day program, and I was in that for about 5 months.

Now, I just see my Psychiatrist and Therapist, and take a boat load of anti-depressants. The good news is I no longer have the suicidal thoughts like I use to. I still have them every once in a while, but they are very brief and only once a week or so, where as before I use to think about it all day long.

I don't know how old your friend is, but if she is a teenager and under age I would try to get her to go to her parents herself and let them know she's having problems and needs help. You can even offer to be there with her to provide moral support. The reason I think you should try to get her to do it is you would not be breaking her confidence and it's better if she wants help.

If she is old enough to be able to go to a doctor on her own, then I would try to get her to get some help for the same reason as above. It would also be great if she would tell her own family, but take one step at a time. Just offer to be there to support her.

People who suffer from depression need a good support system, so eventually she will need her family and other friends, but only if they are positive people.

She also needs to stay away from alcohol, because it's a depressant.

Cutting is an outlet which persons use to alleviate emotional pressure, no longer always a suicide gesture but it does imply your buddy has emotional disorders. Now, what to do... Are you just about your buddy's loved ones? You will have to name them, they are going to recognise she does this and have already got attempted to aid her ago. Sometimes chopping is some thing persons manage their entire lives, it is going at the side of despair or different intellectual well being maladies. All you'll rather do is be supportive to her and urge her within the correct course. She will have to see a psychiatrist and get a few counseling, certainly, but I are aware of it's complex to persuade persons to do some thing like that. So you'll attempt to rally the ones closest to her and take a look at an intervention- many times surroundings limits with them like telling them you like them, however you insist on them getting aid otherwise you are not able to codepend their habits (which means continually looking to suggest them whilst it is noticeable they want a respectable). Otherwise, self worth boosting....doing matters to aid convey out a confident self photograph. Try and uncover some thing they recognise they're well at, or is well approximately them...they are going to recognise if it is contrived. Often, nonetheless, if chopping is from despair or one other analysis, looking to get via to them your self will probably be subsequent to unimaginable. She demands aid, so do not think responsible when you cannot be the only to try this for her. Be sufferer and notice what one of the crucial different persons in her lifestyles believe. Do no longer be afraid to disclose her mystery of chopping to a depended on loved ones member if they do not know approximately it. While privateness will have to finally be revered, on this case it is too dire of a factor to allow move. You sound like an nice buddy for her, she's fortunate to have you ever.

You need to tell someone who can help her in a professional way. Tell her parents or a psychiatrist.

as for what you can do, just show her your support as a friend.

She needs professional help. Tell her parents. If they are too dysfunctional to help, report this to school officials.
