I bought my puppy 1 week ago on 9/26. For a couple of days he used the pee pee pad but then he started ripping them. I've tried newspapers, papertowels, but he takes it, sniffs it, goes nutty and rips everything up. The problem is that per his Vet, my husband and I can't walk him outside because he needs his booster shot. We can walk him out but only 2 weeks from today on 10/16. I don't want him to keep doing his business on my carpet. My husband and I are gone for a long time during the day but I have someone to look in on him in the afternoon. Ideally, we want to be able to take him outside as soon as the Vet gives us the go. For now, we can't leave the pee pee pads while he's alone in his pen because he rips and chews it up. Does anyone have any suggestions as to should I try to make him use his pee pee pads until then? if so, how can I stop him from ripping it up? I've even changed pad brands to see if it helps, but nope, he still rips them up.... Help please!!!!

I recently saw some things at the pet store that keep puppies from chewing pee pads. I didn't look closely, because (luckily) I don't have that problem. I don't remember exactly what they were, but I would suggest going to your local pet store (I saw them at Pet Supplies Plus, but I'm sure others have them as well) and either looking around for them or asking an employee if they have anything to help solve the problem. They were in the pee pad section.

Considering he has to stay in a pen some during the day and this is when it happens, it might be out of boredom. Make sure he has a variety of toys and a bone or 2 to keep him busy. I also seriously doubt that it's because you can't walk him frequently, as the vet said. Puppies are playful, destructive, and hyperactive. I rescued a beagle puppy a few months ago and she loves to tear things up. She even dug a hole in the couch. (Awful, I know!) I forgot that puppies were like this since it had been so long since I'd had one. It's just how puppies are. Most anyway. Some are worse than others, of course. (Like mine!)

He could even be acting out because of having to stay in a pen during the day. Is there a room in your home where he could stay instead? Maybe one with tile or without carpet so that it's easier to clean? If there is, maybe you could put him a bed or blanket in there along with some toys, food and water bowls, and the pee pad. He might like that better.
Worth a try :)

If, by "pen," you mean crate, cut the piddle pad in half and, using clear packing tape, tape the piddle pad to the crate pan. Alternatively, instead of leaving him in a crate (where he's bored mindless and needs to find something to do), invest in a baby gate or two and put him in the laundry room or kitchen and use the baby gate to keep him there. Again, tape the piddle pads to the floor, and give him all of his toys. Remember, he's just a baby and he's home alone all day stuck confined to a small area, so he will get creative with things to entertain himself, including the piddle pad.

We trained our puppy to a throw rug, and hid the pee-pee pads under it. He never knew any better. We would just wash the rug and put a different one down each time he went. It's not exactly the easiest way, but it did the trick until we could take him outside.

Good luck!

You have to catch him in the act to dicipline him, try the spray bottle of water and give alittle shot when he's doing it and say "NO-NO" or a can with rocks or coins in it and shake it to distract him away from what he's doing and again say "NO-NO".
This may help for the two weeks till your Vet says he can go out-side, which I think he's telling you he's ready for.......lol.

Puppies will be puppies though! Enjoy him and Good Luck!

put a small drop of apple cider vinegar on the pad. it will still attract the pet to go on it. but they won't chew it anymore.
