use whatever translation you feel comfortable with. but a few guidelines to be aware of: use a translation, not a paraphrase (like the Message or the Living Bible). also, try to find out if the translation you are using is based on the Greek text (not the Latin Vulgate). languages change and evolve -- the message stays the same. good luck!

There are two uses of the word "Orthodox." By one use, it refers only to the Eastern churches that broke off from the Roman Catholic church during the great Schism. The other use would include the Roman Catholic church as an orthodox church.

The Eastern Orthodox churches include all books in the Catholic Bible -- plus a couple of extra books. In contrast, the Protestant Bibles were edited to exclude several books (the apochrypha) that are part of the orthodox and Catholic Bibles.

You can find a list of books in the Orthodox Bible by doing a Google search on "Orthodox Bible"

I second the idea of using a translation, but use a complete Bible with all of the books in the Old Testament. Get the whole message.

the apocrypha does not belong in the bible, the catholics put it there. there are so many errors in it against the true Bible that its not even funny.
