When I was a student in the same position I walked down the street and asked at every business I passed if they had any work. I got some pretty dirty jobs but at least i fed my family. If you are a good student you know it will only be for a short time that you have to do this menial work.

Honestly? It depends on the type of job you want.
Try www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk, and also fish4jobs for more generalised searches.
Sites like monster.co.uk and retailchoice will save your search and email results through to you roughly once a week.
Another thing to try would be looking through the yellow pages or www.yell.com for job agencies in your local area.
Luckily, there are usually many jobs available (even if only temporary) at this time of year =) Good luck.

I would bet that food service in London has turnover that's just as bad as here in the States. Check around at some restaurants.

Try Starbucks! They pay pretty well, you only have to work 20 hours per week (after your initial 3 month "trial" period) to get medical, dental, eye care, stocks, 401k....They are the best! Plus, they're all trained the same way, so you could literally work at one anywhere in the world! Great Company!

I don't know if this will help or not but my grand-daughter who is in college just took a job as a waitress here in the US for the same reasons. She said the pay isn't to good but the tips are great.

Leave uni and get a job, as you seem to need money more than education. You are supposed to starve in a garret while you are a student!

Ask some people and look in the classifieds. Also, think about some restaurants or some stores that you like and would like to work out.
