Well, that depends on which health department, and what you mean by top 10.
If you mean the ten REPORTABLE communicable diseases with the most cases per year in a region?
In that case, looking at the disease surveillance data on my desk, the top 10 most commonly reported infection in California this year are...
10. Tuberculosis (~1300 cases)
9. Giardiasis
8. Coccidioidomycosis
7. Non-Gonococcal Urethritis
6. AIDS
5. Syphilis
4. Salmonellosis
3. Campylobacteriosis
2. Gonorrhea
1. CHLAMYDIA (~90,000+ cases!)
Yes, I'll bet there are more cases of influenza or norovirus (stomach flu) every year, but those diseases are not reportable to the health department so we don't keep track of now many people get them.
Or did you mean 10 communicable diseases that are most infectious (lowest infectious dose, etc)?
