I've been LDS (Mormon) for 41 years, I've served in virtually every leadership position in the church, I served a full-time mission when I was younger, and I have never read that we will be given our own planet as an official doctrine of my church ever. We DO believe that the Bible is correct when it teaches that God is a real person, that he loves us as His children and we have the divine potential to become like Him. What that will entail has never been fully revealed. Be careful of non-Mormons who come on this site and claim to tell those of us who ARE LDS what we believe. I am the world's foremost expert on what I believe and I have NEVER believed that in my life.

I've heard that, too. They think Adam and Eve came from another planet, and mormons get to do the same thing eventually on thousands of other planets in the future.

What, is this like a world building thing, we get to design our own plants and animals too? Are we provided with some sort of transportation system to go visit our friends and family’s planets and see what kind of weird animals and plants they invented?

Oh, you have to be Mormon. Never mind.

No, that is not true. The Mormon afterlife consists of Hell and three levels of Heaven, none of which lead to your own personal planet.

Mormon.org provides a lot of answers for non-church members to frequently asked questions.

The Mormon view of the afterlife seems to be pretty congruent with the traditional Christiann view of the afterlife, from the information on their Web site. I'll link to it below, but here's some quotes:

"Death is not the end. Death is really a beginning—another step forward in Heavenly Father’s plan for His children.
Someday, like everyone else, your life on Earth will end and your physical body will die. But your spirit will not die. At the time of physical death, your spirit will go to the spirit world, where you will continue to learn and progress."

"Jesus Christ taught His Apostles that in His Father’s house are “many mansions” (John 14:2). Our loving Heavenly Father is anxious to reward all of His children according to their obedience to His commandments and their willingness to follow the Savior.

Those who do these things and are worthy to return to the presence of God and Christ become “heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ” (Romans 8:17) of all that the Father has. They will return to live with Heavenly Father and with their families in His eternal glory.

Those who choose not to follow our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ will receive a reward according to what they have done in this life, but they will not enjoy the glory of living in the presence of God. "

It's a cult created by Joseph Smith that is spreading round the world. Here in New Zealand they are very good at sucking in the blacks to join.

I've had discussions with Mormons who believe this. They also believe that they will become 'gods' when they die. However, when I press them on this, their definition of a god is actually pretty close to the Catholic definition of a saint.
