Is your baby on formula? Do you plan to breast feed? Breast milk is a natural laxative.

I had to put about 1/2 to 1 tsp prune juice in my daughter's formula. She was always constipated, so i put a little in every bottle. this shouldn't make you're little one have diarrhea, but if it does, just reduce the amount of prune juice in the next bottle. If the baby is on formula, then it will probably stay constipated if you don't keep giving a little in every bottle. My peditrician told me to do this, so it is perfectly safe.

My baby was constipated when she was little. I remember getting something.. I am pretty sure it was labeled "Vitamin Oil"? Something like/close to that. It worked wonderfully and within 3 days she was back to normal. We kept her on it for about 1 month, until her body could fully digest food correctly. Fruit is also always a plus when faced with that problem.

Ask your pediatrician about this new product out called "Gripe Water" (for real). Its at Babies R Us and is put out by the same vendor as Little Tummy's,Little Noses and such. I've had a few moms say its a "miracle drug" for babies (of course its not really a drug....lol). It helps with a few different things and I believe constipation is one of them. I'm told its ok for under 3 mos.old. Ask the ped.though.

If you try Karo syrup use only a little. You can increase if it doesn't work but babies are very sensitive and you don't want to make the child have diarrhea. That could be devastating to a child that young. Also try gently rubbing/massaging her or his stomach. This could help to go.

Fletcher's Castoria. It's a children's laxative but it works more like a stool softener. Ask the pharmacist about it.

Take your baby to the pediatrician to be on the safe side. They will tell you what you can and cannot give your baby.
