If so, why do you do it and how? I have been a Christian since childhood, but have often found it difficult to fully accept church teachings. I am starting to adopt Buddhist beliefs and practices. I feel that God is guiding me in that direction. But I still love Jesus and everything he taught. I would find it hard to totally break with Christianity.

I can really relate to what you are saying, and i think that if the christianity adapted some buddhist principles, we would be in good shape. I myself have also thought about converting to buddhism, but couldn't bring myself from what i was raised in. What I do, is live like today was your last, also just be nonjudgemental. I also like to meditate while I pray, meditaiton is acutally becoming more popular with even hardcore christians.

Good for you. Wisdom is wisdom, truth is truth. I believe my studying of Buddhism has made me a better Christian. How else can one connect with God than through a lessening of one's ego and desires, of letting go of control?

The teachings of Jesus and the Buddha are very consistent. In fact, there is a book by Marcus Borg that has quotes from both great teachers side by side. Truly these two men would have found much to agree upon.

There is a great Vietnamese Buddhist author named Thich Nhat Hanh (Sp?). He has pictures of The Buddha and Jesus next to each other in his office. While he is Buddhist, he feels that Jesus' teachings help him achieve Enlightenment.

All the best on your path. Keep practicing Buddhism; it will make you a better Christian and a better person.

peace

Guilty as charged! For some strange reason I have no problem combining both.

I was raised a catholic, child of a catholic mother and lutheran father. Independent thinking was always encouraged in my family. Back then (1968) nobody in my circle was anything other than catholic or lutheran, but one day a little book by the name of "Wir leben nicht nur einmal" (we don't just live once) fell into my hands and my hungry teenage mind gobbled it up like a tasty treat.

I've always been book hungry and an avid reader.....I read everything I could get my hands on. Mom and dad always listened to my "putting it all together".

I find that Buddhism has made me into a better christian. I know I'll get a lot of flak for this, but it's the truth. I could go on and on and go into details, but one of the most important things I've learned is NOT to talk about my beliefs. I just answered your question, that's all.

what kind of Buddhist beliefs and practices are attracting you? what kind of church teachings are repelling you? Buddhism and Christianity have a lot of conflicting basic principles. though some doctrines may be compatible, in the end you will end up being more Buddhist or more Christian. keep on loving Jesus, and search for more answers in the Bible. good luck!

I adopted Buddhism after breaking with Christianity, and I am much happier for it. Personally, I believe that Jesus was a very wise man and I love his teachings, but the way that Christianity twists them into hatred and violence sickens me. You don't have to follow the Christian religion to follow his teachings, you will be able to follow them better if you do not interpret his views through the tinted lense that is Christianity...

What kinds of Buddhism are you adopting and practising?

Some branches of Buddhism are completely different from original teachings of BUDDHA such as zen, mahayana.

they prefer praying and worshipping.

The original Buddhism, known as Theravada Buddhism is also the one way which can lead to peace of mind.

it is written by one Theravada Buddhism monk.

If the tenets of Buddha were good enough for Jesus, they should suit you nicely.
