your body needs carbs to function. It is an ESSENTIAL part of body maintainance. All cells need carbs, brain cells muscle cells heart cells. Everything in the body is made of cells. However carbs will also get stored easily as "fat" as a form of use later energy. Not enough carbs and your body will start to break down, and not be able to maintain normal function. Too much carb will make u overweight.
Moderation is the key think about what u are eating and be sensible! There are carbs in rice and pasta and also doughnuts! Rice etc will be more sensible than doughnuts, but if yr after what tastes good? Tee hee !!
Be sensible eat healthy and include all of the 5 food groups in your daily diet!

I lost 70 lbs on a low carb diet. They work great. You do ingest carbs, you just don't count fiber carbs. You are esentially on a diabetics diet. The problem is that they really work your kidneys over because you're processing alot of proteins. Check with your doctor before you start. I had to check in with my doctor once a month to make sure I was doing ok. I also took a fiber supplement to keep myself regular because I wasn't ingesting alot of fiber and you know what happens when someone does that?

Advantages:

Rapid weight loss, less blood sugar problems.

Disadvantages:

Resuming the consumption of carbs after hitting goal weight will lead to more rapid gain then when you lost it before.

Potential increase in blood pressure and/or cholesterol due to the extra meat based proteins now in the diet.

The advantages are that you can lose weight very fast.
The disadvantages are terrible breath, potential kidney problems and other health problems, it is also EXTREMELY to maintain for long periods of time...

Having said that, I'm currently on Atkins LOL
I just started last week so I'm still in induction.

The low card diet usually calls for high protein as a substitute, and the high protein diet can potentially ruin your kidneys.

Low carb diets arent really the best way to go.
You need carbs because they provide most of the energy for your body.
