Leave it alone. There's an imaginary line in your mind between adulthood and childhood, when the reality is that your 17 year old son got in a fight with a 18 year old peer. And my experience has taught me that it takes "two to tango" and two to fight as well. Your son probably contributed to the escalation of events that ended in the fight. Redirect your anger at making your son a better person, one that can avoid conflict and who has better people to hang out with.

At 17, he's hardly a minor. They will probably both be charged as adults. Let the lawyers sort it out.

Depends on who started it. Honestly.
If a minor assaults an adult first, It is perfectly legal for the adult to use self defense to protect themselves.
Sounds like they are listening to both sides of the story and are sding more on the adults side.

Maybe you were as bad at explaining the situation to law enforcement as you are to us?
You said the other "boy" is over 18. Does that mean he's 19? 20?
A year or two age difference in insignificant.
If you have raised your child in a manner that makes him think it is OK to brawl with the big boys, why are you calling the cops?
Because he got his a$$ kicked?
LAME!!!!!!!!!!!

Once he past the age of 17, the law will consider him an adult for the most part.

The police try to avoid dealing with this type of thing. File a complaint with the district attorney's office. You can usually look up the web page and download the form on line.

I don't know, but the same thing happened to me when I was 14, I got into a fist fight with a MUCH older woman (35-40?). CIP (citizens on partrol) watched the whole thing (& didn't do a damn thing to break it up).
Meanwhile, the woman tried to press charges on ME!? When I didn't even start the fight.
The case got put on "stet"
Years later she overdosed on oxycotin.

Get a lawyer & sue that motherf*****
make sure you take a lot of pictures of your son's injuries, and I would call the chief of police & district attorney if I were you.
even if you son was over 18, assult & battery is a crime! just because he might be looked at as an adult, doesnt mean someone can beat him & get away w/ it!
