Because your body goes into sleep mode, which means lower metabolism and the calories that are digested get stored as fat rather than burned. It's best to go to sleep on a near-empty stomach.

Because your body converts the food (junk or otherwise) to sugars for the body to use as energy. If you eat just before sleeping you will have all this excess sugar that isn't needed for energy, because you are not active. The body then stores the excess as FAT. Which as we all know is hard to get rid of.

It lays heavy on the stomach and takes awhile for it all to digest into your intestines. It also causes quicker weight gain too, cause you are sleeping and not moving around to help lose that weight or doing any kind of anything.

When you eat before bed your body still needs to digest the food you have just ate. So it will leave you unsettled and you become more awake. Leave about an hour margin before you go to bed and your last snack.

That's a myth. You still burn the same amount of calories whether you eat 4 hours before bed or 1/2 an hour before bed. Don't listen to people.

because when you sleep, all of your internal organs slow down, and so does the digestion process. since you won't burn it off by activity, it will start to show in pounds, as well as other lingering effects on various body functions based on what type of food it is.

Because digestion really slows down when you go to sleep and the food will either begin to back up and make you sick, or give you a good case of heartburn. It can also give you very weird dreams, at least it does that to me.

Your food needs time to digest. Everything in your body slows when asleep. Sleeping close to bedtime also can increase heartburn and indigestion.
