There are many levels to this question.
Obviously, there's the "girl grabbing a vertical shaft and manipulating it." Crude, but we're talking about a man's mind here.
There's also a level of skill in driving a stick that shows coordination, timing, and dexterity.
I think the thing that really makes it hot though, is when you're trying to get somewhere fast, and you have to aggressively shift through the gears. Many guys find aggressive girls hot. Driving a stick displays a level of agressiveness that you might not get to see.

Because sticks are for the "rugged, tough" people. A girl driving one or even knowing how is definitely HOT!

It gives off the impression that the girl can control a hard shaft. The second thing is, when a girl shows any interest in something that men are known to admire, like sports, etc, guys dig it.

Cuz they are!!. I used to have a hot Mustang and guys were always coming up to me to talk about my car. It is even better if you know something about cars and can talk about them. The bad thing was that some of the guys were cops with their ticket book in hand. go girl!!!

I have asked this myself to a few guys around here and this is the response I got. " A girl that can shift that stick that good wonder how she can shift mine?" They only think one sided.
