I wear one when I mow the yard. It keeps the sweat from getting in my eyes and down my face. Some people wear them for a fashion statement though.

Du-Rags are for the Wave Hair Style or for Cornrows. It to keep the hair in place. Anybody can wear them but, it does not look right. Other races are wearing them for fashion statements.

I think the look stupid, but if you want to wear them, go ahead.
There not only for black guys, also the Hells Angels and Satans Choice wear them and they are mostly white.
