She has allergies, I don't know if it is the food she eats, but I give her Natural Balance allergy formula, the vet gave her a medicine for the iching skin but didn't work very much, if anyone has a good recipe for homemade food I would appreciate it or just a good kibble with high level por protein!

Take a look at the ingredients in the food you give her now. Cut out all treats that you give her. Switch to a puppy food that does not contain the same first 5 ingredients as the current food. The first 5 are the ingredients that the majority of the food is made up from. You want to get something with out corn, wheat, soy, or chicken (no chicken meal, egg product, or poultry fat). Try Solid Gold Wolf Cub. They make their food with none of those products and it is a very high quality as well as being a balanced puppy food. My dobie started having bad food allergies around 7 months and I tried everything. Now that she is grown and I don't have to worry about her needing puppy food I have her on Wellness Simple Solutions Venison and Rice and she is doing GREAT!! Last summer she had almost no hair along her spine from food allergies, I switched her to the current food in December and she looks fabulous now. The main thing when looking for a different food is to find something without poultry (which can be very difficult, but it's what most dogs are allergic to). If you know she isn't allergic to beef, Bill Jac is a good choice. Avoid lamb and rice formulas (I know they are 'hypo-allergenic') b/c a lot of larger dogs end up having joint problems later in life if they are fed lamb&rice consistently. It lacks some key nutrients/minerals that the dogs need. Hope you find something. Feel free to email me at Meggz21@yahoo.com if you have any questions about food, I've already been through this and don't mind giving out information I've learned about all the dog foods.

HERE YOU GO

How to grade your dog's food: Start with a grade of 100:
1) For every listing of "by-product" , subtract 10 points
2) For every non-specific animal source ("meat" or "poultry", meat, meal
or
fat) reference, subtract 10 points
3) If the food contains BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin, subtract 10 points
4) For every grain "mill run" or non-specific grain source, subtract 5
points
5) If the same grain ingredient is used 2 or more times in the first
five
ingredients (I.e. "ground brown rice", "brewers rice", "rice flour" are
all
the same grain), subtract 5 points
6) If the protein sources are not meat meal and there are less than 2
meats
in the top 3 ingredients, subtract 3 points
7) If it contains any artificial colorants, subtract 3 points
8 ) If it contains ground corn or whole grain corn, subtract 3points
9) If corn is listed in the top 5 ingredients, subtract 2 more points
10) If the food contains any animal fat other than fish oil, subtract 2
points
11) If lamb is the only animal protein source (unless your dog is
allergic
to other protein sources), subtract 2 points
12) If it contains soy or soybeans, subtract 2 points
13) If it contains wheat (unless you know that your dog is not allergic
to
wheat), subtract 2 points
14) If it contains beef (unless you know that your dog is not allergic
to
beef), subtract 1 point
15) If it contains salt, subtract 1 point

Extra Credit:
1) If any of the meat sources are organic, add 5 points
2) If the food is endorsed by any major breed group or nutritionist, add
5
points
3) If the food is baked not extruded, add 5 points
4) If the food contains probiotics, add 3 points
5) If the food contains fruit, add 3 points
6) If the food contains vegetables (NOT corn or other grains), add 3
points
7) If the animal sources are hormone-free and antibiotic-free, add 2
points
8 ) If the food contains barley, add 2 points
9) If the food contains flax seed oil (not just the seeds), add 2 points
10) If the food contains oats or oatmeal, add 1 point
11) If the food contains sunflower oil, add 1 point
12) For every different specific animal protein source (other than the
first one; count "chicken" and "chicken meal" as only one protein
source, but "chicken" and "" as 2 different sources), add 1 point
13) If it contains glucosamine and chondroitin, add 1 point
14) If the vegetables have been tested for pesticides and are
pesticide-free, add 1 point

I got tired of allergies being treated with shots that made her worse and took my dog to a holistic vet. All better. Ok, she gets acupuncture---kooky, I suppose, but it appears to work. Also mix Chinese herbs in her food and put a Chinese mixed salve on her sores--from vet. We changed her to a raw diet of hamburger mixed with Urban Wolf mix. You add a vitamin supplement they make for puppies. It's easy--add two cups mix, water and oil to the raw hamburger. No cooking needed! Additional benefit, all I heard last weekend from people petting my dogs was, "so soft". Fur is better than before and dog with constipation issues and appeared to dread eating, is having no problems anymore. There is meatier kibble. classified as "raw", at pet stores (not PetSmart or Petco), as well, that might help. Innova and Canidae are liked by several people I know.

I feel the best processed dog food (kibble) is Nutro. It has not animal bi-products. The first ingrediants is meat. I feed mine Nutro Lamb and Rice. This is a really good food esp if you find your dog has allergies. There are no fillers in it either.

We feed our PitBull "Beneful Original" only because he loves it, we experimented around with different kinds but he really loves the Purina "Beneful".

He has sensitive skin issues also and we have never had a problem with this brand (unlike others- he had skin issues with).

He's healthy, happy, very energetic and is our 75lb. 2yr.old.

***When switching foods, mix new food together with the old food for like a week or so, then give complete dish of new food***

Try King Canin it's in a pink bag, hard to miss. It's said to be the absolute best dog food made. I'm trying it now but it's too soon to see results.

I feed my 6 and 7 months old Innova, but am switching to Kirkland (costco brand)... it has almost the same ingredients for $20.00 less.

I would say Purina but not all dogs are the same. Check with your vet and see what they say.

IAMS ..... for life! Start with IAMS Puppy Smart, then graduate to IAMS minichunks. You have a larger dog, so he/she might like the regular IAMS "Chunks"
