With the lap band, you will lose weight much slower than with gastric bypass. There is also a lot of maintenance with the lap band. You have to go for fills and unfills whenever you feel that you are eating too much or not enough. Also, it is much easier to eat around the band. You can also eat the foods that you should be avoiding with the lap band.

With the gastric bypass, you will lose weight very quickly. There is no maintenance once you are completely healed. Also, you will experience the dumping syndrome if you eat any of the wrong foods since there is a stricter diet with the gastric bypass than with the band.

There is a high complication rate with both surgeries, regardless if you have it open or laproscopically. If you do not heal well in general, the chances of you having a complication will increase dramatically.

I had open gastric bypass over 4 years ago and I personally know about 100 WLS patients that have had both types of surgeries.

Lap band seems to be the way to go. I know someone who had the gastric bypass and is still having a hard time with it. Granted, it hasn't been that long but she wishes that she had the lap band

Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass /lap band surgery / stomach stapling and gastrectomy have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your Obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

What's the biggest part of the gastric bypass and the lap-band?

please don't do the gastric bypass if you don't have to! I know people it has worked really well for, but my mom has had problem after problem with hers and it's hard to reverse it when you're not in very good health. That said my Dad has had nothing but good with his. But if you don't have to do it, then don't!
