Because no one in their right mind would believe....

"In Scientology doctrine, Xenu (also Xemu) is an alien ruler of the "Galactic Confederacy" who, 75 million years ago, brought billions of people to Earth in DC-8-like spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs. Their souls then clustered together and stuck to the bodies of the living, and continue to wreak chaos and havoc today."

You can read more about it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenu

So how do you think they brainwash their new members? It's scary that they have so many followers...

It is called auditing... research this.. It is pretty scary. The scientologists say that auditing CLEARS your mind and your body, but in the process of this, they are being brainwashed. During these sessions, which have to be paid for by the person getting audited, they are hooked up to a machine that claims to tell if the person is hiding anything. This way the auditor will get sometimes personal info on the person. But of course, it is all to be a clear person and be free of all that hurts you. I don't buy it. It is a scary thing

You are right. No one "believes" this story.... including Scientologists. It's a story. The Bible's full of them. So is TV, the media and the internet.
This has nothing to do with what Scientology is. Obviously a few people would like to "brainwash" you by promoting this story as being what Scientology is.
It isn't the first time this has been done to a religion. The Romans spread weird stuff about Christians so they could throw them to the lions. Hitler promoted lies fear and hatred about the Jews which resulted in wiping out 6 million without protest from the German people. So it goes on. This forum is
constantly bashing various religions, and spreading false concepts and promoting fear.
There is nothing "scary" about the growth of Scientology.
Here is what it actually is about and the true story of why the number of people applying it's principles continues to grow:

Scientology is an applied religious philosophy. When I say "applied" I mean you actually use it in your life to change or improve existing conditions. This is different from a religious practice. All religions if you learn about them have a basic philosphy, but they also have certain dogma, rituals and observances, and a certain faith or belief is required. There is nothing wrong with this, but Scientology is not that kind of religion. It does not intrude on anyones faiths of beliefs particularly in the area of God , the Supreme Being, or the Infinite. This area is left totally up to the indivdual, which is why you can be a practicing Jew,for example and still use and apply the priniciples of Scientology in your life. It does not conflict. If anything it will enhance your understanding of your chosen religious practice.
You can have no specific religious beliefs and still benefit from using it.
And it is only true for you according to your own observation and experience with it.
It is a non denominational religion . The dictionary definition that applies:
Religion: The spiritual or emotional attitude of one who recognises the existence of superhuman power or powers.

The most basic principle of Scientology is that YOU are your own immortal soul, that this is not a "thing" you HAVE but what YOU actually are.
The whole purpose of Scientology is to increase an individual's understanding and awareness of himself. And thereby his native abilities .
When you do this the sphere and zone of his positive influence increases and moves outward into his life, his family ,his friends, his groups and mankind which he is part of.

How this result is achieved is the "technology" of Scientology, which was developed by L.Ron Hubbard after his extensive research and the discoveries he made, about the human spirit. The basic religious philosophy and knowledge of Scientology is very old, going back 10,000 years at least to the Veda or Vedic Hymns from the East. The developement of the technology is new.
He completed his research before his death in 1986 and left all of his results and copyrights
to the Church of Scientology along with most of his considerable personal estate, when he died.

He published a book in 1951 to communicate the basic principles he discovered called: " Scientology The Fundementals of Thought"
There are currently over 8 million Scientologists in more that 150 countries world wide. However we are a new religion, only 53 years old.
The true story of Scientology as a religion goes like this:
1. A philosopher developes a philosophy about life and death.
2. People find it interesting.
3. People find it works.
4. People pass it along to others.
5. It grows.

What is "scary" about that? Wake up and look for a change.
Oh and YES I am a Scientologist!

First I want to clarify that the story of Xeno is just a fable and no Scientologist believe it to be true. In fact most Scientologist I have meet haven't even heard the story. Scientology is much like Buddhism but instead of meditation they use auditing with the same goal and faster results. Scientology is the most attacked religion there is. Why? Because it works. Scientologist are some of the able people in this planet. like Leah Remini, Jenna Elfman, John Travolta, ect. Scientologist are kind, gentle and good communicators (except Tom Cruise but he is learning). Now we live in a culture that is run on the absurd believe that there is no soul and that people are dangerous and need to be medicated to be controlled. Not long ago the practices of electro shock and lobotonies were common practice to control people. The biggest difference between Psychiatry and Scientology, is that Psychiatry believes that man need to be controlled to be made good and Scientologist believe that man needs to be liberated (restore the power of choice) to be made good. These are two opposite points of view. Now if Scientologist win, the drug companies and the Psychiatryst are going bankrupt so they are investing a lot of money in propaganda to make people believe that Scientology is bad. All that proganda is compose of lies and exagerations. But Scientology is still here. Why? Because it works. And you can't argue with results. Hundred of thousands of people attest that Scientology works. And you only hear of a handfull of complains (big deal). If Scientology didn't work it would had disapeared long time ago, but it is here and growing despite all lies in the media. And that my friend is amazing.
Here are a few links that explain Scientology better:

Well, Stan form Southpark ended up being a reincarnation of L. Ron Hubbard, and wrote even more doctrine...

Then Tom Cruise and John Travolta locked themselves in the closet with R. Kelly.

Seriously, I really don't know what's wrong with half of Hollywood. It almost sounds like the UFO cult that castrated themselves when the "mothership" arrived. People are pretty stupid.

i've got examine a solid bit approximately Scientology. the people who're Scientologists are in basic terms gullible commonly. in case you may have faith which you have unbelievably low Theten ranges, you may have faith that stuff...in case you want a actual snicker, seem at a biography of L.Ron Hubbard. one among his fees are (i'm paraphrasing), "you will by no skill get rich getting a greenback a be conscious, in case you want to be rich, initiate a faith." he's been extremely valuable, however the government did no longer like him so they deleted his information.
