I was just put on it for anxiety/and obsessions and I keep reading about horrible side effects, making people suicidal, and and weight gain. I'm starting to get nervous about taking it. Its only been two days so far.

Many of these meds affect individuals differently so this is only my experience. Paxil was the first med they put me on... long time ago. I was concerned about the same things you mentioned. Mine was a bad experience on Paxil. I felt very cloudy and in a fog... having trouble with continuity of thought. Worse yet was the weight gain. I gained 5 inches on my waist in 3 months! No change in diet or excercise/activity. I went back to the doc and said " Hey, thanks for the help. I was depressed... now I'm Fat and depressed! Big help!!!" ROFL It wasn't funny to me at the time but I can laugh about it now. I lost most of the weight after going off it. Some of the weight gain was simply a puffy, water-retention thing. I felt puffed up like a balloon and looked terrible. The rest of the weight gain unfortunately was real fat that I had to drop through exercise and dieting. I'm not trying to bad-mouth paxil, just sharing my personal experience on it. I have also known others with similar experiences. I am now on lexapro which has worked very well for me. For some it is even known to curb appetite. Talk with your doctor about your concerns and make sure they take your concerns as legitimate. You not only have a right to be a part of the selection of what medication is right for you... any good doc will know it is crucial that you are involved and communicative about it. Best of luck to you.

If you read the "side effects" for aspirin, you wouldn't take that either! Honestly, they have to identify EVERY side effect anyone says they have had! Actually, Paxil does have a good reputation. It also does have side effects, like every other drug! Two days is not a fair trial...give it 4 weeks, then talk to your Doctor about how it makes YOU feel!

Okay, here's what my dr's have told me:
Tolerance to these medications run in families. They didn't put me on Paxil, because my sister had a bad reaction to it (got extremely violent). They put me on Celexa, and it's working great. Try it and see. If you are under 18 (or even around that age), go back and talk to your doctor, and tell him that you'd like to try something else first (therapy, St. John's Wort, etc). Good luck.

I did not like paxil at all. It made me gain weight which just made me more depressed, but it works different for everyone. I'm on zoloft now, and i highly recommend it.

What should I avoid while taking paroxetine?

Drinking alcohol with this medicine can cause side effects.
Ask your doctor before taking a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) for pain, arthritis, fever, or swelling. This includes aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), celecoxib (Celebrex), diclofenac, indomethacin, meloxicam, and others. Using an NSAID with paroxetine may cause you to bruise or bleed easily.
Paroxetine may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.
