I'm "for" it providing the individual knows all the risks & life changes they are going to have to make & is really "ready" to do that. Otherwise I'm against it.

I think it is ok in cases of morbid obesity (100+lbs.) overweight. But first, I think I would get at least 2 Drs. opinions. It also depends on the total health picture of the patient. It is not to be taken lightly but in some cases can literally be a life saver. Some folks because of heredity or other problems gain weight on even a 1000 calorie a day diet. Since we must eat in order to live, giving up food is not an option. Overweight does not mean a person is lazy or has no will power. It is one of the worst forms of malnutrition. Most overweight people have been eating way too much fast-food or high carb food such as potatos, pasta, bread, gravy etc. These are foods that poor people can afford & they're filling so that's what they eat. If the person has tried their best to lose the weight through dieting/exercise & just hasn't been able to do it, then as long as a very reputable surgeon does it (upon other Drs.') approval & when the patient is fully informed of the risks, I think it should be done.

For somone hundred of pounds overweight I could be for it.
However, I don't think most people that get it should. A lot of people see it as a easy way out and it's really not. The complications that can occur are numerous. Of all of the people I've know that have had it, most have had major complications. A couple almost died. A friend of mine had it, he was in a group with 11 other people who had to go to classes about it before getting it. Only 2 of them are left alive, the other 10 died. That is so awful.
Another thing, this surgery alters your digestive system, I don't think it's good to alter your insides. Who knows what can happen in the future. Plus, because your body will not be absorbing enough nutrients from the food you eat, you will have to take handfuls of vitamins for the rest of your life.
I know losing weight is hard. I have first hand experience in that area.
I got tired of the yo-yo dieting and just decided to make small changes. Does it take longer to lose the weight that way? It does, but I think it's the key to keeping it off. I

Against. Basically all this surgery does is prove that people can lose weight by eating less. Their stomach is staples or tied or whatever you want to say and therefore they eat less therefore they lose weight. If they would just have a little self discipline and eat less and actually do a little excercise I dont think there would be such need as this gastric bypass surgery. But thats just my take right? Who cares?

I'm for it because I've had it. However, you have to know ALL of the risks that you are taking because you are putting your life in someone else's hands. There are many changes that occur once you start losing weight. I don't mean only the physical changes. There are many emotional changes as well. If you are not prepared to handle them, your life may not seem better after having this surgery.

I have mixed Feelings about that Bypass Surgery. If one is :"morbid obese" and nothing else works for them(Diet and Exercise), I say that you still have to get lots of Tests and a second Opinion; also include your Pers. Physician when trying to make up your Mind.

Against. Have known several people who had it; two died; one nearly died of bleeding in the loose skin where the weight had come off and left loose skin hanging; one gained it all back by injudicious eating...and never met ANYONE who was happy with the way they looked. You lose too fast, and your skin is stretched from the fat; it can't snap back that fast, and just hangs...makes your face look old, and the rest of you flaps when you walk. Sorry. I know it sounds like the easy way to go...

I am totally for it if it will help save a person's life. My boss had it. Not only did her health improve when she dropped 108 pounds but so did her self esteem and general feeling of well being.

Depends, if it for health reasons, then for, if just for cosmetic reasons, then against.
