For clarification...
Jesus appointed 13 Apostles
(12 which we know, including Judas, and then Paul)

Apostles were hand-picked by Jesus.
Disciples were generally touched by the teachings and miracles and followed. These disciples were great in number, but most all departed and fell away when Jesus was crucified.
More disciples were appointed by the Apostles in the Book of Acts.

The Seventies were ordained and set apart by the Apostles of Jesus Christ to go and evangelize to the nations. They are traveling elders to carry the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world.

Today, we have these Seventies in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and they travel and teach as the primitive Seventies had done. The only difference between the primitive Seventies and the group today is that the latter travels all over the world.
