I don't know how it started, but a favorite in my family is (don't laugh) lemon jelly with turkey. No, you don't use it as dessert, you put it on the table right next to the cranberry. The simple way to make it the night before:
1 package of Lemon jello
and follow the package direction for making jello.
ONLY: instead of using a whole cup of cold water, use about 3/4 cup and add lemon juice to make it a whole cup (ought to be about 3 TBL of lemon juice).
This makes a tangy sweet jelly that is PERFECT with turkey, lamb or chicken. It's really nice if you are also serving cranberry relish or cranberry jelly with your turkey.
There, now you have one of my family's treasured holiday recipes!
Hope this helps.
Enjoy

I loved the half-baked potatoes with almost any meat. If you have leftover whole cooked potatoes (baked or boiled,) slice them in half longways and place them cut side down on a well-greased cookie sheet. Very lightly oil the skins, too. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit 30-40 min until hot through and crispy-browned on the cut side. (If you have no leftover potatoes, put a few in the microwave for about 3-5 min per potato, depending on size. Proceed as described.)
Corn casserole and squash casserole (go to www.cooks.com for those recipes, sorry I don't have them with me today) are wonderful side dishes for turkey. I wouldn't serve them both at the same meal, though, of course. Either one wuld be great with the half-baked potatoes.
For a non-pumpkin dessert, I have a fantastically simple recipe for Cranberry Crunch. Email me (click on my 'name' just below that grey smiley box over there) if you'd like to have it and I'll send it along.

Egg noodles, homemade ones are the best, but the frozen kind are fine, too. Try a broccoli, cheese, and rice casserole instead of mashed potatoes.

Bread pudding with rum sauce would be my first choice - with a homemade buttermilk pie a close second!
