Psyllium - it's an Indian grain similar to wheat, but very high fibre. It's the basis for many laxatives and fibre drinks/capsules. Two teaspoons a day in yoghurt or juice will make a big difference.
Dates and prunes - always works for me!
Licorice - contains a mucus-binding substance that makes going to the toilet really easy
Raw fruit and vegetables - plenty of fibre, and very good for you
Water - you can't go to the toilet properly if you are dehydrated, so get your 8 glasses of water a day
Regular exercise - necessary to keep your digestive system working properly; a 1/2 hour walk every day is enough to keep you in good order
I make an apple crumble with stewed apples and chopped dates; the topping is a mixture of rolled oats and psyllium moistened with honey and melted low-fat margarine, then baked in the oven until the topping is crisp and brown. You can have it for dessert or even breakfast with low-fat vanilla yoghurt - it makes you go to the toilet within a few hours. Eat it every day, and you will never be constipated again!

You may thinking of castor oil, which is really nasty stuff and if it doesn't make you vomit it will help with your constipation.
I heard something about mineral oil once from my grandfather used to take it for constipation

Another great laxative is senna, which is the active ingredient of sennakot

One of the best is flax seed capsules. It is not only healthy for you, it maintains bowel regularity and it is not addictive. Use only the capsules that have been "cold pressed." That method spares the mico and macro nutrients.

Cascara segrada ,a tree bark used by the American Indians, it does work. make a tea from it. it can be ground up and taken raw.
Graham crackers work well to loosen things up.

Mineral oil and it has no taste (you can mix it with your favorite drink but it doesn't mix well so drink it quickly!), cod liver oil, castroil oil, prunes (or prune juice), apple juice, beans (or is that gas??) and beer.
