I have finally decided how I'd like to help society, and I'd like to be part of the VPD. I plan to apply next September. I'll be 20 by then and have my class 5 license, and I am currently looking for volunteer work in policing. I will also have one year of post-secondary credit by then. I'd like to know if you have any pointers for me to be successfully recruited, or any tips on how to stand out. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, the V stands for Vancouver, and their average recruiting age is 26. They recommend volunteer work before recruiting...

What VPD are you talking about. Do you know how many towns start with the letter "V"?

I work for a VPD and you don't stand a chance of being hired until you are 21. In the state of Texas, them minimum age to become a peace officer is 21.

But in general I would say stay in shape, continue furthering your education, and keep your nose clean. Do not get into any trouble with the law. Another thing that police departments look at is your credit. If your credit is bad, they don't want you. So be sure to clean that up before applying.

Good Luck

Volunteer work in policing? You don't get to enforce laws by simply volunteering, sorry. I'm not sure what the VPD is other then a police dept. but you need to get hired, attended a police academy and pass field training. There is a lot to it not just walking around a mall or something.
