First start with one letter a day, so they will not feel stressed. For example, with one letter show them how its pronounced..Talk about words that start that letter. And draw the letter out in dashed lines about 5 or 10 times so they will learn to write them too. That will help them remember the letters. REMEMBER they're only 3 and 4 years old so they have time to learn them.

Oh Momma! Good luck!
I'm a veracious reader and I want my child to share that passion!
At bedtime, we did flashcards and read a book and ID'd the letters for months. The mixed it up by having him just each letter out of sequence. It was C and show him a cat...and the word, so he learned both the letter and the word at the same time.
Then more flashcards- AM & PM with coloring letters as an art project- used colors to help us out. R=Red W=White B=Blue Then used a flag and [cross pollinated per say].
I have alphabet tape applied to their table space, the walls in the bathroom and along the bed rail on his bed. My son will be 3 in one month and he knows it and is working on small words now.
He can also count to 100 and do addition of 1-10 and working on subtraction. We use grocery shopping as the best Math tools.
We sing that alphabet song a nausea! We love Barney too for all the Good manners lessons.
Good luck! I go to teacher's supply stores and ask for help all the time. They are wonderful. Dollar stores have tons of supplies and I download stuff from Disney.com all the time.
Each kiddo is so different than the next. We loved the sesame street games, PBS.org has lots of good things to help ya too.
Sure he can spell it, but~
Now if I can only get him potty trained- grrrrrrr!
Keep up the hard work MOM!
Why so urgent and hard nosed? Because I had a learning disability that NO one found till I was a junior in college and by the grace of God we have tackled.
I have a soft spot for education and play incorporated into all areas of life. I don't waste any time on just mindless entertainment. Its equal to feeding kids beer and pretzels for dinner in my eyes. Just ruining a precious opportunity.

I work at a daycare and have for years. I teach the two year old children and when i am changing them or when we are coloring or doing activities, i always sing the alphabet song. Today I walked into my work and four of my children were sitting on the floor and rehearsed the whole song, these are two year olds, music is amazing, just sing the alphabet song around them, chances are, they may catch on....

I think for me the "standard alphabet song" is what really did the trick. But you could say things like A is for apple B is for brocoli C is for cotton D is for door E is for ear F is for foot etc etc And then you could talk about each of the things.... and you could say you can eat an apple but you would not want to eat a door( I guess unless it's made out of good vegan ice cream or something)

You can cut out the letters in sturdy paper and have them decorate each letter with a words that starts with that letter (like apple stickers for A or marshmallows for M). Take it slow - a letter every few days or even a week. Let them display their work and I'm sure it will begin to click. Let them set the pace and most of all let the activity be fun.

Try the Leap Frog Letter Factory video -- it is GREAT. There are also TONS of preschool printable worksheets online. Do a google search for free preschool worksheets. Have them find things in the house that start with A.....then b, etc.

Just sing it like any other song. They'll catch on! Maybe sing it more often then other songs...then they might really like it. Also you can get them involved by singing songs with the same tune--like twinkle twinkle little star. I hope this helps! Good luck!
