what holds you back from admitting it? Do you WANT help... do you obsess about how to change it but don't have the courage to do so?

I'm not asking about ME, I'm asking about you. No advice needed... just want to understand the disease better as I am caring for an elderly alcoholic parent.

I have a disease of alcoholism (I do not drink, some 12 years now)..did admit it when I got sick and tired of being sick and tired, did seek out help (therapy and A.A.) I don't obsess any longer but I would not want to take a chance that the obsession could come back, if I drink one drink. Continuous abuse will eventually led to mental institution, jail or death.

Actually, yes. Recovering. I started drinking at 13 and I got to the point where I was always drinking. Before school, after, all of the time. I actually kept it up until I was about 22. I had to work one Sunday after a night of hard core drinking. I drove to work and started to wait on customers. I went to sit down on a stool, and fell off. That was when we all realized that I was still drunk. At that point, I decided it was time to quit. And I did. For a while. I've had some rough times where I start back up, but I always seem to crawl out of the hole and quit again. I've now been sober 9 months. Not too bad. It helps that I have support from my boyfriend who has been through it also.

Nobody ever wants to admit to something so serious. When they are ready for help they will admit and accept and then hopefully do what needs to be done to get help.

there is no such thing as alcohlism..just sad people who like to wallow in thier problems with alcohol....so AA provides a place to wallow in those problems ans get appluaded and *** kissed...so it is only a substitutuion. AA is a bunch of bull..there is no real therapy for frequent drunks..just tell them to stop or you will leave them
