The Platters did a cover in 1959 which hit #1 on the Billboard charts.

Irene Dunn was in the film ROBERTA in 1935.

The Platters are the most well known recording artists for this song. I saw them in Pearl Harbor minus Sonny Turner who had formed his own group. That was in1973 and The Platters still sounded like they did in the 50's.

I seem to remember that originally it was a french song and was translated into English and given to an American black jazz singer called Elizabeth Welsh. She had great success when she brought it to London and then in New York in either the late 20's or early 30's
