The "Chief Priests" are the ones that purchased the field, not Judas Iscariot.
Judas, Jesus’ betrayer, has been observing the proceedings. When he sees that Jesus has been condemned, he feels remorse. So he goes to the chief priests and older men to return the 30 pieces of silver, explaining: “I sinned when I betrayed righteous blood.”
“What is that to us? You must see to that!” they heartlessly reply. So Judas throws the silver pieces into the temple and goes off and tries to hang himself. However, the branch to which Judas ties the rope apparently breaks, and his body plunges to the rocks below, where it bursts apart.
The chief priests are not sure what to do with the silver pieces. “It is not lawful to drop them into the sacred treasury,” they conclude, “because they are the price of blood.” So, after consulting together, they purchase with the money the potter’s field to bury strangers. The field thus comes to be called “Field of Blood.”
Judas Iscariot certainly had not acknowledged God as his Ruler. Why, he had betrayed God’s Son for 30 pieces of silver! Judas returned that money to the chief priests, but Peter said that the betrayer “purchased a field with the wages for unrighteousness.” How so? Well, he provided the money and the reason to buy the “Field of Blood,” as it was called. It has been identified with a level plot on the south side of the Valley of Hinnom. His relationship with the heavenly Ruler completely ruined, Judas “hanged himself.” (Matthew 27:3-10) Perhaps the rope or tree limb broke, so that he ‘pitched head foremost, noisily bursting in his midst’ when he fell onto jagged rocks. May none of us be a false brother!

Acts 1:18 is a part of the scripture which describes what Judas did after he betrayed Jesus. It said that Judas attempted to repent, and he tried to give the money he gave back to the moneychangers which he got from betraying Jesus. They wouldn't accept it, though, so Judas got a plot of land, and he fell headlong on it and died. This was because when he fell, his intestines (his guts) came out. So, he was dead for real.

do you mean 1:18 - that particular verse? if so....Luke recorded a popular tradition about the death os Judas that differs from the one in Mt 27:5, according to which Judas hanged himself. Here, although the text is not certian Judas is depicted as purchasing a parcel of land with the betrayal money and being killed in a fall.
his betrayal brought him wealth, his wealth bought him land, his land obtained by his betrayal gave him death.

Judas was given money to betray Jesus, he took the soldiers to meet jesus in Gethseminie, and when Judas kissed jesus, they knew he was the Christ, so they took him ,then Judas was sorry he had done it, so he took the 30 peices of silver and gave them back to the men he got them from, actually he threw it at them , and wanted them to release Jesus, but they wouldn`t, so they took the money and used it to buy the potters field, and thats where Judas died.

It's pretty much self explanatory isn't it? Judas bought a field with his ill gotten booty and then killed himself over it with his guts gushing out as he hit the bottom. Or am I missing something?
