Had the same problem with my puppy...... vet said that it goes back to when they were puppies and the pen or what ever they were kept in was not kept clean. So the puppies try to clean it up themselves by eating it. If the pen is kept clean they do not do eat it. I asked the vet what to do about it... she said feed the dog a few peices of pineapple during the day and when it is digested and comes back out... the taste will be so bad that they will not eat it.

you probably have but just dont know it...
anyhow why most dogs do this is improper house training when young or poor facilities when they were pups (many many pet store puppies will do this)
puppies also learn this from watching their moms who eat the puppies poop to keep the "den" clean
also it has been proven that it isnt something missing in their diet - because if something were missing in their diet they wouldnt be eating their own poop - becuase what ever was missing wouldnt be in the poop if it wasnt in the food in the first place -

It,s a behavioural problem and it causes toxic poisoning. I know this as my brothers dog does it and almost lost her life two weeks ago, so if you,ve a dog that does this stop it by putting a muzzle on it or take it for counselling

I don't really know why they eat poo, but my dog has been known to not only drink out of the toilet but also lick up her own wee..........I guess its for the same reason they lick themselves - because they can.

if you feed them pineapple, this will stop them eating their poo. It's something to do with the acids in it. It worked on my dog

every living creature craps. crap is jujst the 'waste' from digested food, but still has some vitamins and minerals in it.
Dogs know theres a whole lot more to second helpings that we humans would contemplate, they are trying to reabsorb it.
But some are just greedy.. teach your dog to share

lol-me neither, but it can come in handy. Although the cat box is where the dog can't get to it, I have one cat that goes over the tub drain if the box isn't to her liking. I can rely on the dog to clean up for me. Yes, I know, pretty gross.
