Puerto Ricans are American, why should they learn English? Works both ways you know.

Puerto Ricans are taught in both languages, by the university most classes are held in English due to the fact that they use English text books. No one is forcing anyone to learn another language. It is a BENEFIT to be literate and able to communicate in more than one language...think of our GLOBAL marketplace...are you all assuming the rest of the world will just learn English?

If she is legally here (which, being Puerto Rican, she is) that is her business. However, one reason we limit immigration is so that our own home doesn't change so quickly to another culture that it becomes uncomfortable for the people who are indigenous. While SHE has a right to speak pig-Latin if she feels like it, the fact that SO MANY are choosing not to integrate helps fuel the feeling that there should be less immigration.

That is the way it works, in every country.

On another point, studies galore have been done, and people, and their CHILDREN are much more likely to 'get ahead' in the US if they assimilate. Fact. Check it out.

I don't know. Why do people go to a country to try and make a better life for themselves, yet seperate them selves by refusing to learn the laungage ?

If you don't speak English in America, then I guess you are saying you don't want to be a real citizen here, and like any other country we don't want any dead weight.

If she dose not want to assimilate, she will be the worse off for it, anyone with a half a brain knows English is the way to a better life, why are the Mexicans so stupid on this subject, their to lazy to change their government and to lazy to learn English, sad bunch of people. They are the worst immigrants to ever come here. I wish they would go back to Mexcio, we should give the immirgants that are waiting in line and want to be Americans in first, we should give them amnesty, and deport all illegal Mexicans.

I have no problem with a person wanting to sit in the dark, but the tax payers shouldn't pay for the printing of forms in anything other than english, or supplying interperters. If puerto rico is so nice they are perfectly welcome to return to their point of origin. We shouldn't subsidize the lack the unwillingness of a few that don't want to fully join the American experience...

I agree that if you live in U.S. main land then you should at least be able to communicate in English since it is what everyone speaks. I hate, though, when people want to abolish Spanish channels, radios, and even want to keep people from SPEAKING their native language.

no i think all of this extra Spanish thinks should just be abolished. if you speak you native tongue in your home go ahead. but dont go to a public place and expect the people there to be able to speak that language. yeah we should not have to pay to have people get the same forms of us english speaking people do so that they can get there spanish forms.

IF YOU LIVE HERE SPEAK THE LANGUAGE. and if i affend anyone sorry for that it is not my fault.

It's called hatred of other culture and fear of change. Unfortunately, a lot of people agree with it. If your neighbor doesn't want to speak English, she shouldn't have to.

if they don't want to learn English that's up to them. there hurting no one but there selves's. if they feel were pushing them to learn English .then why should we be pushed into learning Spanish. Porto Rico is a commonwealth of the united state's. the only reason America took them under are wing, is because of Cuba. are gov didn't want Cuba getting in there with Porto Rico.
