I have a four-year-old cat, he's neutered, declawed, and stays indoors 24/7. Over the past few weeks, his hair has been falling out in big chunks. His butt is almost completely bald from his hair loss. He also throws up alot, not just hair, but cat food. Any ideas of what this could be? I haven't changed his type of food or litter, nothing new or unusual in his day-to-day life, just his hair falling out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

First off, he definitely needs to go to the vet. It could be anything, from a thyroid problem to a vitamin or mineral deficiency, or something that I can't even think of. He may just be vomiting because of the irritation from grooming his hair that's falling out.
A vet can do blood tests and tell you exactly what is going on?
Meanwhile, you might try feeding him a better brand of cat food (more nutritious). Personally, I've had good luck with Nutro Natural Choice for cats (I think it's called Nutro Complete Care, or something like that). Just stay away from anything that lists anything other than meat as the first ingredient. Cats are naturally carnivores, and do not need corn or other "fillers".
Hope this helps, and I wish you and your cat the best...

Definately talk to your vet or a local vet. Cats when they get older also get affected by stress easier. Is there some kind of a change around the house that could be causing your cat stress? Try some pampering and TLC and also, observe the times that your cat seems to shed. What is she around? What did she just finish doing? Just stuff like that! We have to shave my cat every month because he has a licking fetish and he almost kills himself by hairballs. But our other cat is a very emotional cat and it will start to lose hair when it gets depressed....weird huh?

Hi there... cats can sometimes develop allergies to their food even if they've been eating it for years. Various medical conditions involving the endocrine system may contribute to the hair loss as well and would need to be checked by your vet to confirm this as well as any other plausible causes.

I have an elderly cat whose hair is falling out and this was wrongly diagnosed as flees. The cat was given flea treatment which did not help him. Be careful about this and make it clear to vet that there is no itching or signs of fleas.

it is common in cats and dogs to shed. however alot of shedding could be a sign of not enough nutrition. that doesn't mean that your not feeding your cat its just that probly what your feeding your cat is not nutritional. about the throwing up and the hair balls. sorry honey i'm not a vet but i hope you take my advise. take your darling cat to the vet to have him/her checked out. you don't wanna wait too long.
