It really varies depending on the department you are applying for. A lot of job flyers I have read here in California say no DUI/reckless driving convictions in the past 3 years. However, I don't think a candidate would actually be competitive in that short anount of a time. I would suggest wating 5 to 7 years and maybe getting a college degree and do some volunteering in the community in the mean time. Keep your nose clean and you'll maybe have a shot in a few years.

inspite of what Chris W says, this is not that trouble-free to get a police job in the South. at the same time as you may properly be waiting to skate with the aid of if the DUI is previous, if this is been extremely recent, you may forget it. There are departments in the SOUTH that are so strict they forbid tobacco use (Savannah, GA). There are additionally departments that may not hire you in case you have been convicted of any criminal offense, which includes misdemeanors. some departments even require you to take actual agility and written assessments till now they even deliver you an application (Charlotte Mecklenburg.) "THE SOUTH" is equivalent to different aspects of the rustic so a ways as regulation enforcement is going. inspite of what human beings think of, we are notably knowledgeable down here. we've between the only genuine cultures left in this united states of america.

I wish we had the smiley's, you know the one where he's laughing his head off rolling on the floor. When you apply to the police you will have to disclose this even if you go though the process of being granted a pardon on your criminal record. Police officers don't get warm & fuzzy feelings about having a partner that has been convicted of most anything. I suggest you start researching other careers.
