Funny, most people don't know what to believe and they simply believe what they are told to believe.

It's like when you encounter a truth, you must make a decision of whether or not you choose to believe it, or deny it. (guess that would depend more upon your self esteem / self-concept ) and if that truth makes you look like a hero or a looser.

See, if that truth makes you look like a hero then you'll be happy to believe it,
If that truth, however, paints you in quite a different light, I would suppose you'd call it a lie and attack it. Clearly the truth has you rattled, at this point, and you'll do anything to discredit it.

Now lets take this a little farther. Say you got to believing that you are every ones hero, Your squat don't stink and yada yada yada. Now I have evidence that you are really an abusive smart mouth know-it-all prick who gets his kicks pissing people off by trashing what they believe in.
If I present you the evidence of this truth, You will undoubtedly say that I am attacking you. We all know that I did not attack you but instead your belief. You will not at that time, or at any other, make that distinction, You will assert that I have made an attack on your person, but only because you believed in something that you used to define yourself.

So NO!

Yes and no...it depends upon the intelligence of the person being attacked. Most christians are rather low level intelligence and carry with them a god-complex so they see attacks on the bible and the bible god as direct attacks on them. They cannot separate attacking the message from attacking the messenger...

For most people, religious beliefs are very deeply held and make up a good part of who they are...so attacking those beliefs is always seen as a personal attack as well. This is the reason why we still hear christians whine and moan about being persecuted even though they live in a country where they are allowed to have thousands of churches and to teach in their homes...

If christians cannot shove their religion where ever they damn well please, they will always pull out the "we are being persecuted" bs...and just the fact that a person such as me can freely trash their religion and beliefs, that is seen as though the Government allows christians to be "persecuted" even though they have the right to trash my beliefs as well.

Yes. To attack a persons beliefs is attacking the person themselves. And when you attack someone's beliefs you attack everyone else who shares that belief. But when you simply attack the individual, it can be about anything. If you attack a person, usually it is because of something specific about that person that you dislike. Neither is very nice but there sure is a lot of it going on here.

It depends on how you approach it. If you enter into it as a debate to find a real answer, then you aren't attacking the person, you are questioning their beliefs.

If you attack simply to slander and cause ill will, then you attack the person along with their beliefs.

People's beliefs are so much a part of them that by attacking their belief you attack them personally. So no, there is no difference because the perception is the same.

You should never attack a person's belief, no matter how wrong it is. You can express your belief and agree to disagree. That's all.

Attacking beliefs can not be compared to attacking people because of color or sex or sexual orientation. people who argue religion are not inciting violence. Where as people die every day in this country because of the Christian rights hate mongering.

yes, let me tell you why

I think that I can have respect for someone personally but still not agree with there way of thinking. I am very open to what otheres believe and I usually dont attack them, but when people attck me, about my beliefs, i dont take it personally.
