Yes & no.

I work in one of those places to which schools go on field trips. And we have noticed that unless the teacher is prepared and engages the students, the trip is almost worthless.

So unless, the purpose is for fun and a break from school, field trips aren't educational in the formal sense of the word for most classes.

We are now living in a society where education is driven by standards based instruction. Any and all activities that take place within an educational environment MUST correlate with the standards. The days of field trips to Chuck-e-Cheese and spending a week planning the Thanksgiving Feast are over. Standardized-based instruction is in, and field trips must be educational. =)

Yes,the interaction of the children with each other,the shaparone they get to know that day,all the history or science learned the fun way and getting out of school for real world education is great for the children!I always shaparoned my son's in elementary & high school and me and the kids would have a blast!I have some fond memorise and I am sure they do of me,too!and just the certain place we visited,a life time it will be remembered!

Our School Board has a rule that all field trips must relate to the curriculum taught that year, so our teacher this year is teaching a unit on roller coasters so that we can go to an amusement park for our grad trip.

They can be.... I remember going to Quite Valley which is an Amish community and The Weller Center, which was a museum about the human body. It combines learning with fun and gives the kids social interaction.

yes they are because the kids/students are listening, seeing, hearing, and sometimes smelling and feeling the activty and the people will remeber the action because of that

it depends......sometimes they are. but one of my field trips was to a chineese restaurant....so it really depends haha
