Yes,they can. It's treatable, usually with anti-fungal shampoos, like Malaseb, but sometimes they need to take oral medication as well. You can also use anti-fungal foot powder or spray,as long as it contains Miconazole nitrate,2%.This is safe,I asked my vet,and I've used it on a cat and a Golden retriever with no ill effects.Adding yogurt(plain, unsweetened) to the dog's diet can help as well. You really need to have the dog examined by a vet, though,to rule out allergies or thyroid problems, both of which can cause itchy, smelly skin.Good luck and hope your dog feels better.

Mix half water with half white vinegar. What this mixture does is it changes the PH balance making the dogs skin undesirable for the yeast to grow. It kills the fungus as well. You must treat the dog everyday until the skin begins to show improvement and the fur starts to grow back. In between sponging her down with the mixture, you may bath your dog once a week in a mild shampoo keeping the coat clean and grease free. Yeast infections leave a dog smelling bad and feeling like it has a greasy coat. Use an anti fungal shampoo if possible. This will work if you persist. Yeast infections are nasty but they are curable. You will also improve the situation by washing her bedding with hot soapy water and bleach. If you want a faster soulution take her to see the vet. Scratching goes hand in hand with yeast infections which can also leave your dogs skin red and raw. If you can't afford a vet then try the vinegar method, but the vet is the fastest way.

I don't know about on their bodies, but they definitely can have yeast infections in their ears.
You seriously need to take your dog to the vet. Whatever the problem is, if it has reached the point of putting off an odor, it needs to be taken care of ASAP.

Dogs can get several different types of skin infection that cause odors. They can also develop irritated skin from allergies which can cause an odor. Take the dog to the vet for a small skin scraping so they can tell you what is causing it and prescribe the correct medicine or diet to treat it.

Our Lab contracted an infection on the skin of his tail. We treated it daily and kept it clean and it looked as though it was healed. A few days later it started back up and we took him to the vet... he ended up having to have his tail removed. The vet said it was an aggressive infection and had we not gotten him in we would have lost him.
I would suggest you take him to the vet. Don't risk it. We could have lost our dog out of shear ignorance.

Yes, my basset gets them often. You should take your dog to the vet. He/she may need steroids and an antibiotic.
