Yes, it is possible, you just need to shop around..you wont get a high limits policy (probably 10k max), and it will be higher cost (comparing to a normal 500k policy), but its possible, felon or not..insurers are in business to make $$. If they feel they can write the risk profitably, they will do so. 10k should easily pay for a service and burial though. Shop online and you will find plenty.

I thought once you were in the states care, they would handle all the cost of burial once you pass away..of course this may only result in a cremation or burial in a state cemetery though..

To add to the previous answers, an insurance company wants to do business with someone that obeys the law and is honest. If they know that the person has committed a crime (especially dealing with money), most insurance companies to not what to put their neck on the line to insure the person.

That's not to say that it can't be done. Some companies might allow it but others just say no flat out because they don't want to chance it.

The insurance companies probably would deem a convict serving time in a correctional facility to be uninsurable.

Remember, the purpose of life insurance is to replace the income of the primary breadwinner in case of premature death. A convict in the slammer hardly fits the definition of a breadwinner, primary or otherwise.

I assume you mean life insurance - if they have any form of income (disability) or the loss of their life would mean that someone would suffer, you can insure them, but the policy wouldn't start until after their incarceration was completed (delay) - because there are many fatalities in prison.
