ok my youth director says that telling a person of a different religion that they are going to hell is not judging, but I think it is and we spent 2 hours arguing about it. So what is it to you? (is it preaching or judging?)

It is most certainly judging. Your youth director can call it anything he or she wants, but the bottom line is you are telling something that the religious beliefs they hold dear are wrong. That is being judgmental.

Judging

It is not effective witnessing. To make a mile long answer very short. We are not against anything. We are for Jesus. We do not have the authority to condemn anyone. We can not judge because we can not see all the facts about a person past present and future. I just tell people about what Jesus has done in my life and how I was, what happened and what I am like now. Period.
We proclaim the Good News.

Awesome discernment there!
GOD bless ya.

It's judging and downright arrogant. Does your youth director ever read The Sermon on the Mount. He really need to check out Matthew 7:1-5.

Your youth director is correct...repeating what the bible says is not judging. No matter how bad the truth hurts, it is still the truth. Most people don't know what judging someone means, especially on here, I've noticed. Would you rather have him/her say, "The Holy Bible says that you will go to hell if you don't believe in Jesus Christ and accept Him into your heart as your Lord and as Savior." That Jesus is the way, truth, and life and only through Him will your sins be forgiven. That is not judging, that is stating the facts from God Himself. There is one way to heaven...only one.

It is judging. I aggree. Telling them what you believe and why it brings you happiness is one thing. I served as a missionarry full time for two years. I knocked on thousands of doors. I had thousands slamed in my face. I never once felt the need to tell some one they were going to hell. We all can be forgiven. We are all children of god. What I felt was saddness that they could not share in the happiness I felt. I loved them even though they slamed the door. I hoped that some day they would listen and if not that they would find happiness of their own. I hope you stick to your guns. Don't let him tell you how to believe. Search the scriptures and study them. Find the truth in them. Pray and ask for the truth. James 1:5 is a great verse. And if you don't see it in the religion you follow currently don't give up till you find the one that sings to your soul. God Bless. Love is the way no anger.

It is preaching so long as we let the person know why they are going to hell. Otherwise it is just "Hell Fire" preaching.

Preaching the reality of hell, without using the Law to bring the knowledge of sin, can do a great deal of damage to the cause of the gospel. A sinner cannot conceive of the thought that God would send anyone to hell, as long as he is deceived into thinking that God’s standard of righteousness is the same as his. Paul "reasoned" with Felix regarding righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come (Acts 24:25). This is the righteousness that is of the Law and judgment by the Law. Felix "trembled" because he suddenly understood that his intemperance made him a guilty sinner in the sight of a holy God. The reality of hell suddenly became reasonable to him when the Law was used to bring the knowledge of sin.

Imagine if the police burst into your home, arrested you, and shouted, "You are going away for a long time!" Such conduct would probably leave you bewildered and angry. What they have done seems unreasonable. However, imagine if the law burst into your home and instead told you specifically why you were in trouble: "We have discovered 10,000 marijuana plants growing in your back yard. You are going away for a long time!" At least then you would understand why you are in trouble. Knowledge of the law you have transgressed furnished you with that understanding. It makes judgment reasonable.

Hell-fire preaching without use of the Law to show the sinner why God is angry with him will more than likely leave him bewildered and angry—for what he considers unreasonable punishment.

It is judging, because it means you have condemned them. Telling them they are a sinner on the other hand would not be judging since all are sinners.

To judge, means to assume that someone is condemned for their sins or actions. We are supposed to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and despite our knowledge of their past we are to know that salvation is available to anyone and that anyone can change. It also applies to worldly acts such as crime, we should not assume that because someone is killed they cannot change and are condemned for eternity.

Matthew 5
43"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

If you tell someone what the bible says, no its not judging. But not always is it best to just come out and say your going to hell. My husband witness to a man in the nursing home for 6 months and on Christmas Day we found out he was in the hospital. I left room afraid I would hinder what God might want to do, and as I walked into the bathroom in the waiting area I felt as if I should say something. I prayed and ask God to work through me. I came back and I plain out told the man he was going to hell if he doesnt get saved. Now mind you the man knew he was lost and needed to be saved, but until the Holy Spirit shows him the truth nothing my husband said made sence to him. I had my husband read from Luke 16 and he did and the man spoke up and said he needs to be saved now. Our friend was saved that day 4 years ago. Sometimes you need to show compassion when witnessing and sometimes just be blunt. God said it frist that those who are not saved shall be cast into hell.
