As soon a group of people get political power, everything goes sideways! It doesn't seem to matter if it is a position of power in the church or government. That's what all the blood and gore was about in the Old Testament. Politics, not religion! We are now seeing many quasi-religious-political organizations trying to gain power in today's world! What do you think? Do political organizations with political goals have a right to claim they are a religion?

Perhaps I am na}ive, but I think if your religion is something you really believe in, it affects your whole being, your whole thought process, and the way you interact with society. So of course it will affect your political views as well. Personally I would like to see people with strong and sincere religious beliefs in all parties. Personally, I am a Christian, and while on the one hand I don't think any of the political parties fully reflects Christian views, there is room for believing Christians in all of the parties, as they all reflect different aspects of Christian values.
As a Christian I would be concerned at the attitude that one particular party was the only one for Christians. It would be stifling for politics, and could make for a false theocracy.
So yes, religion needs to be protected from the implication that a particular party is the only correct one, but I also believe people of religious beliefs should be involved in all aspects of society, including politics.

Religion is and always has been a political tool...it is used to give the perception that a particular candidate is of high moral character even though the truth is that any and all who thump the bible are sinners, mostly they turn out to be the worst of all sinners because they use religion as a smokescreen to hide their sins.

Religion is a tool, even without attachments to politics...religion is used mainly as a control method, but it has also been used millions of times by perverted priests and pastors to get into the pants of children. And religion is also used by war mongers like GW Bush to control the natural resources which rightfully belong to others.

Religion should be destroyed before religion becomes the cause of destruction of all of us.

Religion has no place in government and if the U.S. becomes a Taliban type Bible Nazi Christian state, I will take up arms against it.
