Has anyone ever gotten really depressed and get insecure about everything? I have depression and when I'm going through a rough time, I get insecure about the way I look, the way I talk, the way I act, who I am, and even my whole identity as a girl. I start to doubt everything that I have felt for a long time. I doubt that I am straight, even though I am attracted to guys and I had a boyfriend for 8 months. It's like I don't trust myself. Is it normal to get this insecure? When I'm not depressed I am fine. I have some insecurities, but they don't control my thoughts.

Oh yes, it is not uncommon at all to feel this way. Depression is so insidious, it's good that you recognize it, many don't and just feel they are crazy and do stupid things, like suicide etc. there are many wonderful (life saving) drugs available, see a doctor. exercise, and good diet are important too. good luck.

Deppresion is a really bad thing, i dont need people around us know exacly how it affects ur everyday lifes, what we do what we wear what we say everything. People have diffrent types of deppresion. U need to let these feelings out by either talking to a friend, mom, therapist, doc if u cant get urself to talk to anyone about ur problems cause i know it can be hard to just sit and tell people ur problems u migth want to try the next bext thing that is rigth it out in a piece of paper all ur problems that bother u from the smallest proeblem to the biggest problem or vise versa and when ur done letting all ur emotions out ripp the paper into little pieces but before u ripp the paper read it over that will help u out.

I'm a social worker. Yes, it's normal to get insecure when you get depressed - and in fact - it's normal to get down right paranoid. However, it's not in your best interest to make any big decisions when you feel like this because I'll bet that after you feel better, you can't believe what you were thinking... It helps to have someone you trust to bounce things off from when you feel like that (friend, family or therapist) who will be honest with you. You don't need to be placated, you need the truth. a little reassurance goes a long way... good luck.

Do your moods vary a lot? People who are diagnosed with Bi-polar Disorder will often find themselves depressed and full of self-doubt during low periods. That mood will then change to a feeling of invincibility and elated happiness. Keep a journal of your mood switches and feeling to monitor your emotional lows and highs.

Depression often occurs when you have a negative self-esteem too. You may be depressed because of your feelings of self doubt. When you make positive life changes, it will give you a more positive self-esteem and the depression disappears.

Seriously, talk to your dr. There are many meds than can help regulate the depression. If I were you (and it would take everything I had to do this) print out this question and take it to your dr. He/she can work with you. My fear is that your depression episodes are deep. They are deep enough for you to question your sexual preference when this is normally not in question (at least I am assuming this). I hope you are able to work through this. Just realize that you cannot handle this on your own.
Take care,

Yes, insecurity goes along with depression. A feeling of worthlessness is one of the major signs of depression. If this has happened more than once you should deal with it. "Deal with your stuff before it deals with you."

I became extremely depressed and it was very damaging. If you have gone through bouts of this before, please talk to someone. If you cannot afford a mental health professional at least talk to your primary physician.

It could be a panic attack. Counseling (with others with the condition) helps to learn how to handle them.
