like I want to buy a cellphone from houston can I use it in Monterrey?

It depends on what kind of phone you have. If you have a GSM phone then it is compatible with almost any network. If it's a CDMA phone then most likely not. Cingular is the only network to only have GSM phones. All the others carry a mixture.

I bought a mobile in the U.S. and I use it In Guadalajara, all you have to do is first: contact someone capable of unlocking your phone (in Monterrey). Then ask him what brands /models can he unlock and pick one of those.

Don´t buy the phone first or you might end up with a useless device.

I just went and took my nextel phone and it worked. I was able to communicate with my family and it worked fine.. There is certain areas that it won't work and the cost might be really expensive.

I doubt it... the network type may be different down there
