I am 16 and my boyfriend is 23. My mom recently found out we are having sex & now she is trying to take him to court. Im not sure she can even do this, but Im scared bc I love him and dont want anything to happen to him. I love in SC. Does anyone know if she can legally do this? Please help!!!

yes she can definitely ake him to court. It's called child molestation. You're under 18 and he's 23. It sucks, but she really is just trying to look out for you. I'm only 18 and I've alreeady realized that what i thought 2 or even 1 year ago is not reality. I'm not saying you don't love him and I'm not saying he doesn't love you because I don't know the exact situation and I'm not here to judge you. But sometimes you think you know a person when you really don't. I know you're 16 and think you know everything, everyone goes through that. But you have to realized that at the end of the day you don't know what really goes through his mind. Maybe he does have ulterior motives. Maybe he is lying to you. Maybe he isn't. But at the end of the day, this is legally child molestation and your mom has every right to sue him. Don't hate her. Just realize that she's trying to protective. Teens tend to be to vulnerable and trusting. She's your mom, it's her job to do this. You'd do the same thing if you were in her situation.

Yes she can. What he does with you is called statutory rape and will bring him about 10-15 years hard time, add him to your States registered sex offender list and prevent him from ever living near a school or daycare. He will also not be able to get most decent jobs as the majority of them require a background check.
Your mom is right to do this and only has your best interest at heart. The law is quite clear here, even if you say yes, it is still considered statutory rape. You are simply not old enough to make a decision.

Sorry to tell you this but yes, your Mom has every right to do this. Parents who love their children will do everything they can to protect them. A 23 yr. old has no business even dating a 16 yr. old much less having sex. I really don't mean to downplay your feelings but if this guy really loves you then he would've waited until you were 18 before having sex with you and I know you don't believe it now but you will find someone else. Please don't think that your Mom is trying to ruin your life because she's not. I can understand you're being angry but direct it at the right person which is your boyfriend for placing you in this situation.

Yes legally she can take him to court and he can be charged with rape, because you are under 18. He is too old for you, and think about this carefully. What does a 23 year old man want with a 16 year old girl especially since he didn't have the guts to approach your mother and let her know how he felt about you.

i am not encouraging this at all because i am going through the same problem with my son and posted a question. but in response someone told me the legal age is 14 for a girl and 16 for a boy. so i dont know why everyone is saying she can, because it is out of her hands. it is out of my hands in my situation. go to this link and it will show you the ages.

i dunno about the law out there but in the uk u av to be 16 to hjave sex by law so ya mum cudnt do anything as u are 16.if she tried to get the police involve and they asked u if u had sex befor u was 16 u cud just tell a little white lie they carnt do nefing then as u r 16 and consented to it that in the uk neway

YES, she can and I pray she does. He needs to be dating someone closer to his age, how dare him to deprive you of your best years in high school. She is trying to help you, save you from the pain that you will experience later, when you become too old for him.
