Because he's two years old. He doesn't bathe, eat, or do really do anything completely alone yet. Why would using the bathroom be any different?

Its because he is 2. You are lucky that he tells your wife that he needs to go, most 2 year olds aren't even toilet trained yet, so its great he is going and telling. Kids at that age are not complete individuals yet.

Because he is 2 years old and it is a big deal to him. It makes him feel important. My kids when they were little always told me when they had to "go". My grandchildren did the same thing. Most all kids I know do this. It is something that kids just do. He'll get over it.

okay he is only 2yrs old, my little girl is 2 and she does the same thing, do you really expect a toddler to go to the bathroom by himself he is still learning and as his dad you need to help and praise him when he does potty and never get mad at him when he says he has to pee or else he may stop altogether.

Does he go to day care? My 5 year old told me up until he started kindergarten this year. He was in day care and they have to tell someone when they have to go. If he does not attend day care, my assumption would be that he is just trying to verbalize and use his, basically, new found voice. They like to hear themselves talk.

Probably because she was the one who potty trained your child so your child is use to telling her when he does. My son is 4 and he still comes and tells me that he has to go pee. You need to let them know that now that they are bigger they don't have to tell you they have to go before they go (That is at Home). When they are at preschool they have to let the teacher know so they can get up and go.

At a young age children need approval from their parents frequently. Although he uses the toilet appropriately, he may still need to be told he's doing a good job, etc. Children are dependant on their parents and that isn't a bad thing!
