Why do you think your cockatoo is lonely? Is he by himself all the time? If you got another, the cockatoo that you have right now will forget about his human family and will spend most of his time horsing around with his buddy.

Well, tell your mom about how it wouldn't be that much more work, and explain how important it is that your friend is happy, and how he is one of the family, and just like she can have her husband, your birdie can have a friend. Tell her that with his time occupied by a new friend, he wouldn't sqwauk (sp?) as much, and that if they do breed, you can sell the chicks (if that would be happening, and if she knows that's what you're up to). There is a show on Animal Planet called Barking Mad if you've ever seen it, and most of their bird problems like aggression, depression, and even some other things, are solved by buying a new friend. Depending on where you live, there are some shelters that have no cost to get an animal, and that's another plus. I hope I helped!

(added later) Also, if you have 5 cages of birds, why is he lonely?
Just asking, not getting smart or being sarcastic.

BREEDING IS NOT THE ANSWER TO LONELINESS UNLESS YOU ARE NOT WANTING TO BE A PART OF YOUR PARROT'S LIFE ANYMORE. MAYBE I AM BIASED, BUT I RESCUED A COCKATIEL AND THOUGHT THAT SILAS WOULD HAVE COMPANY. NOW THEY ARE BONDED AND I AM OUT IN THE COLD. LOL. FICKLED TIEL. HE USE TO LOVE ME. LOL. NOW HE PROTECTS HIS "WIFE" AND ATTACKS ME. THE ONLY WAY I CAN HANDLE HIM IS IF I GET HER FIRST. ARE YOU SURE YOU ARE WILLING TO TAKE THAT RISK?

BTW IF THERE ARE OTHER PARROTS IN THE HOME, HE ISN'T LONELY FOR OTHER FIDS, BUT MOST LIKELY FOR YOU.

I hate birds...my parents have one and it squawks when anyone speaks and gets louder as you try to speak over him, it's annoying....I use to hold my cat up to the cage, yeah never worked but I was just hoping it would. I hate that damn thing.
